Been seeing a lot of Baekhee hate, and I've even seen them slut-shame him. I'm not surprised, though. BL readers will see an abuse victim who's been gaslit, threatened, coerced, and raped his entire life, now trapped in the most devastating situation, and somehow their biggest concern is that Baekhee being raped by Gyeom means he's cheating on Ilwoo. Then we have the other side that want him to get over it. As always the bl community and their habit of licking any tops dicks to the point of stupidity.
I feel like people from our generation are much more judgemental and superficial... I hate how people will just copy paste other people's habit of moral policing without even using their fucking brains...It feels so exhausting when everyone online seems to parrot the exact same talking points about "cheating", "past relationships", and "body counts" without looking at the nuance or the actual human beings involved. And for the thousand time , BL READERS DON'T KNOW SHIT ABOUT COMPREHENSION AND MEDIA LITERACY !!
Surface level reading comprehension, unable to handle any conflict unless it's resolved within one chapter, and allergic to any character who doesn't behave exactly how they want.
I'll call a spade a spade. No critical thinking, no original opinions, just blindly following the crowd and pulling superficial moral values out of their asses whenever it's convenient.
Bl readers are the most hypocritical crowd I've ever seen. They will use "it's just fiction" for rape , say that people can't differentiate between fiction and reality but they get shit ass triggers by "cheating". "I can excuse racism but I draw the line at animal cruelty!" And most of the time their stupid monogamous view on story are the most back ward shit. You will genuinely see them praise the living shit out of an abuser and hate on a uke with realism and complex emotion because of those superficial moral values they pull out of their ass.
And another side is how they simply will always prefer the top because they associated the uke role as something feminine. They will lick, ride the top dicks, babied them and throw the uke under the best if needed to defend the top. At least raise your standard and suck better dicks.
As an avid BL reader, you're spot on with your analysis of the broad BL readership, hence why it's so annoying to go on Reddit or other platforms and talk with them. They're insufferable and their priorities on what to hate on and what to look out for or praise are truly messed up. I've been downvoted a lot because of trying to analyze and see complexity in both characters, not just the top (tops are always given the grace of complexity and dimensionality especially when they're toxic, while the bottom is just "annoying, dumb, a whore" etc. Almost like the one who taken on a "feminine" role in heteronormative BL relationships is scrutinized more... Misogyny, misogyny.), and especially for criticizing rape and pushy behavior being inserted in almost every story, not just the dark themed ones. "It's just fiction!", until a character they love cause they're hot and whatever experiences something they don't like or a character does something they don't want them to do as to feed their own expectations of the story, then they get veeeery worked up over that same fiction. It's exhausting to engage with the "then don't read it" or "it's just fiction" crowd, and it makes up a huge portion of the BL people. It promotes a culture of mindless consumption without engaging with the medium in a meaningful way and, well, exercising literacy. Not all, I've seen some very based opinions and some truly deep analysis on here, but it's not the vast majority, I'd say.
