No, it's not like that, except for very specific cases, it's more subtil for girls, but to draw subtility you need space and time, which authors don't have, so they resort to big obvious because it's a shortcut. The messages passes: there is a rival and she wants your partner.

One has darker blue eyes and dimples, almost gray eyes, while the other has bright blue eyes and no dimples. I hate this!!! I hate love triangles, especially when they involve siblings. I'm so disappointed, really...
