yeongwon is just a different romanization of young-one (and slightly more accurate) but the hangul is the same. Mignon is a nickname, I don't remember how in depth they went with that in the animation though, been a while

It's the incorrect romanization of his name, which is Mignon. That's his only name in the original Korean animated series, he is never called Minyoung, nor is his name ever pronounced as Minyoung. It is ALWAYS Mignon. And despite claiming it's "easier for Western audiences to pronounce," it isn't. At least not pronouncing it properly. The name is a joke, since "mignon" means something small and cute and dainty, like a baby or a toy poodle. Which is the exact opposite of what Mignon is, the name is a joke.

Same with the doctor, whose official name is Oh Young-One. But in his case it's meant to be an English pun, since he's a vampire. So he's not a "young one," he's old. Kaizen just can't be bothered to get the names right when translating.

i don't know why you're so passive aggressive with me, im only responding as someone who speaks korean and consumed the animated series only understanding its korean perspective. "his name is never pronounced minyong" the VAs only ever pronounced it as minyong considering that's the korean way of saying it. the series is still set in korea and operated on korean laws (regarding underground boxing)

I also believed it was like a play on words for mignon as ive never seen a korean name mignon(romanization for 민영). 민영 is only ever romanized as minyoung(as far as I know)

im not denying the wordplay on mignon and it's a reason why it's localized as 민용 (min-YONG) and not 민영 (minyoung). it's to mimic the actual french word and the fact that people named minyong do exist. this other person just seems to be so bent on insisting that minyong can't be a valid romanization when that's how the voice actors said it. you can't speak over other people when you don't even know the language and its nuances
