It sounds selfish but Nathan thinks that would be so unfair to himself by forgiving Alex just bcoz he(Alex) had a reason, while he(Nathan) was betrayed, literally had to give up on his dream and hopes. But also in the novel we have seen from Nathan’s monologue that in those past 9 years, even tho at first he was hating Alex, later on he just wished wherever Alex was, he lives happily doing the things he loves. And when Alex got injured, Nathan kept panicking thinking in all those 9 years he nvr for once imagined a world where Alex isn’t there. It’s out of his imagination. Nathan nvr stopped loving Alex. And then Nathan investigated the truth too. And then he remorsed and apologized to Alex and he took care of Alex 24/7 with little to no sleep. I feel like chasing arc would only make things worse between them. So I am happy with how they resolved things.
well Alex wouldn't know the bare minimum since his mother left him even told him to pay her back for giving him a shelter, his father told him he's only worth it if he's a good footballer and then left him when Alex was in his lowest point with debt that Alex has to pay even now.
