Exactly. This manga rubbed me the wrong way and the fact that she was like 'Think of me as a man' just makes it sound like 'There's no choice, think of me as a man instead of a useless woman'. She should have shamed them for their prejudiced attitude and left with her head high, not cut her hair and accept insults about her gender. Such an environment isn't worth it in the first place. Everyone sucks and this is the opposite of feminism, despite its attempt to provide us with a 'strong' fl.
So she should give up because it’s a patriarchy? I think this is a great portrayal of feminism. She did what no other woman did so far and forced these men to acknowledge her. Shaming people about their prejudice changes nothing, that won’t remove their prejudice. She has to prove that she is just intelligent as men so that one day, the fact that men and women are equal will come naturally. Change happens by breaking into new territory with pride and confidence in knowing you’re capable, not by giving up and leaving because people shun you. In this world, men will always shun her for being intelligent. So she has to put them in their place by defying their ideals and what they say.
I don't disagree with her 'breaking into a new territory' and defying their ideals but that's not what happened here. I simply don't appreciate the way feminism was presented in this story for the reasons i explained. Sure, shaming won't change someone's prejudice but changing to fit the prejudiced persons ideals isn't going to either. It's instead going to reinforce the idea that you should be 'like a man' to ever succeed. Instead, she should strive to to rise as the way she is and make her point through different means. This is a fantasy manga, there are plenty of other ways to present feminism than this. This scene simply felt very amateur to me, despite the intentions behind it.
