Back in high school we were given book reports we had to do projects on that required us to choose a book from a predetermined list. I chose The Kite Runner knowing absolutely nothing about it going in. It was my first encounter with the concept of rape as a form of control and domination over another. I struggled with the book because this concept was as foreign to me as the setting. The protagonist was also a morally grey and at times black character, which was easy for me to wrap my head around, but was not for the few peers of mine that also chose to read this particular book.

I bring this book report up, half my life later, because the comments on this story as well as many others seem to completely miss the point and demonize all readers who like to grapple with complex topics such as rape, morally bereft and ambiguous protagonist and characters, trauma, ect. ect.

I’m not asking you to like this story or any other, but maybe don’t blame every reader of being a depraved rape apologist or write the story off for covering themes you don’t quite understand yet. Many of these comics have content warnings and age restrictions for a reason. Use those warnings and restrictions to your advantage as a reader.

If you cannot talk about stories that cover themes like this like an adult discussing classic lit then you either need to read more novels instead of comics or read something more age appropriate for where you are at developmentally.

I’m supposed to believe that Hawon fell over the side of the boat backwards when he’s facing the side of the boat when shot? Ok, already bad try to chalk it up to he stumbled more than was shown and it was less forceful then how the artist depicted it. Ok, yeah fine. Not how any of that would work based off the way the characters are placed in the space but let’s keep reading…

Then they expect me to believe that this man jumps out of a helicopter and miraculously dives into the water close enough to Hawon to grab him in the water? You’re kidding right? No one on the boats heard the helicopter above them??? Or felt any of the force of the blades pushing air down right above them??? Like sure, open ocean it’s probably windy af, maybe the waves were too loud…. But idk this isn’t working for me logically. The only way they would not hear a mother fucking chopper is if it was way high up and there was too much noise pollution at sea level. So, Taeha broke his neck on that jump.

Ain’t no fucking way. I’m willing to suspend my disbelief for a lot of things and I never openly complain about the webcomics I read even when they’re bad or end abruptly in the worst way but this was chapter was just ridiculous.

Hawon would be so close to those boats after falling off and based on how the artists set it up and placed the characters, boats, chopper, its like the logic of a five year old playing with their dolls. The height on Taeha’s jump into the ocean would have put him either right next to the boat and very lucky he didn’t break his neck diving directly onto the boat or so far away from Hawon he’d just be paddling in open ocean trying to find a needle in a haystack.

Just so fucking stupid. I can’t. I’ve never crashed out over webcomic logic like this before. I need a drink. What the fuck did I just read.
