i hate when writers try to spin everything off with bad backstory that falls flat with the whole tone of the story like it was obvious they were setting the lead to look that he had obvious problems, like yandere level crazy, but they just scraped it off and made a half assed development arc this would've been good if it was a proper dark story it does make sense for him to be twisted as result of abuse but the writing of how his thought process flows is so different from how it normally should be. its like theyre making everything more digestible and palatable for a wider range of readers than to just stick to what they were trying to hint and offer
