Oh wow. Yeah, the novel was a little much, I wish they would’ve compromised more. The same things they struggled with comes up in a lot of novels, and I think a good example is Turning.
Kishiar (ml) wants Yuder (mc) to prioritize himself and all the things, and of course Yuder keeps throwing himself into danger. They end up coming to an agreement not to apologize for things they aren’t really sorry for (like throwing themselves into danger to help others) and instead agree to rely on each other and protect each other while doing the things they have to do. It’s a little different because in Turning they’re both men and both extremely capable, whereas maxi is just learning magic and all the things, but reading the novel for THIS story, I kept wishing they could come to ANY agreement. They kept having the same argument basically :(
You may be talking more about what maxi does when she leaves for magic school though. I do wish that had gone a little differently as well. They’re both so stubborn and traumatized.
Wait nooooo why what do you mean I thought they would be happy from now on(╯°Д °)╯╧╧ Sofia
Well I mean they have a happy ending, just not like any time soon lol. Maybe the comic ver will do something different? But if they plan on being loyal to the novel, things will go VERY BAD and then get like slightly better but stay pretty not great for quite a while and then eventually mega happy ending. Well not mega happy just happy I’d say.

Feel free to drop it but I do think the novel is a beautiful story. I think they end up having pretty much the best case scenario considering everything maxi and riftan went through, the story has a very peaceful conclusion.

It’s not a “mega happy ending” or even a "happy" ending when the story glosses over all the unresolved toxicity and treats grand romantic gestures as a bandaid fix for a fundamentally unhealthy relationship. That isn’t reconciliation or meaningful development.
And before anyone mentions it, no, locking your wife away and forcing her into rough, angry sex (literal rape) for an entire week while she cries and begs you to stop is not “reconciliation.” (If anything, that’s abuse with pretty framing, but that's one conversation for another time)
Please PLEASE don’t follow the novel! That’s all I’m asking for
