They act as if our valid hate and criticism is 1984 or north Korea's level censorship. Believe us, none of us would guess about their fetishes if they learnt to stfu instead of actively and passionately defending harmful content. When I was 15, I used to like Dengeki daisy (a mystery shojou manga where the female lead is 16 years old and her love interest is 23 years old); the age gap disgusted me, and while there was nothing sexual, the manga still romanticized and normalized pedophelia. I read the manga with a critical mind, and while I am glad that it didn't affect me, I never defended the age gap when it was called out and criticised. Why the fuck would I defend and get butthurt over legitimate hate and criticism? I'll try my best to explain it in a sensible way. As a yaoi reader of 6+ years, I've encountered countless stories with rape included, and despite not liking the rape scenes, I still enjoyed reading some of them because of the plot, potential character development, etc. Those manhwas also faced tons of criticism because of the rape, physical/emotional abuse, and other things, but I NEVER ONCE tried to defend the story, or even worse, accuse the critics of ENJOYING it or being genuinely ENGAGED with it, just so I could feel better about myself for being the one who was actually engaging with it, despite knowing that the behavior depicted in it is morally wrong.
One other thing we should keep in mind is that not everyone has the same limits when it comes to immoral concepts, EVEN in stories. This particular manhwa/novel surely surpassed the limit for many people, but if someone's still enjoying it, that's their business-unless they start getting defensive, trying to shut down the criticism by saying that the critics are secretly enjoying it as well.
And last but certainly not least, it's not like it's the same few people who keep commenting on this manhwa after every chapter and repeatedly expressing their disgust. I myself only commented once, and after that, I stopped reading it. I also rarely check the new chapters briefly out of curiosity, just to see whether the story has actually developed or stayed the same, and then check the comments to see if others feel the same way. There's a huge gap between reading something once in a while and being genuinely engaged with it and waiting impatiently for every new chapter to drop. :)
