Less dumb and more too self sacrificing. He’s still dealing with the guilt of leaving his father to die and so he’s fighting survivors guilt. Previously when he realized what was up with Top he started distancing himself but once he heard about the plans to take them down this switched to ‘it’s for the greater good’ . Then again he is also dealing with amnesia but that’s another tangent
Because 1. Morals 2. The system is corrupt. Not everyone in the system would leave him for dead as they’ve been going through and introducing us to the characters but even if they did it’s less about thinking less of him and more self preservation because yes they’re stronger. Since he has amnesia and the world is ruined he has no one outside this system alive so of course he’s going to try to help them because what’s the alternative? Leaving them all to die and possibly get himself killed if he decides to exit the system? Or watch all the horrors continue from inside it? Remember that his views of everything including the feelings he had for Top changed as soon as he realized just how little they value life. Yes there’s a bit of savior complex there cause survivors guilt and yada yada.
It legit doesn’t matter how good to him they are. It’s not a good situation to be in especially since I’m pretty sure the only reason the Top still has him around is because bottom showed violent tendencies among other things. Just because it’s more convenient doesn’t mean it’s correct. Free food doesn’t matter in the face of innocent people dying or better yet having to continue selling himself just so he doesn’t get a trial himself. He veryyyyy easily can die here.
If a system is corrupt it needs to go that’s all. Can’t justify it just because you’re benefiting

Genuinely they are ruining the reading experience for everyone disgusting
