Kinda regret reading this, should have waited a bit, ngl.
I don't usually write long comments under manhwa, but _Wet Sand_ left me with too many unresolved thoughts to stay quiet.

I have very mixed feelings about this story. A lot is implied. A lot happens off-screen. Interpretation is pushed heavily onto the reader. That's intentional, I know - but also very frustrating. No single reading is 'wrong' or 'right', but it's interesting how divided reactions are.

What stands out to me is the narrative imbalance.
The story invests heavily in Jo - his emotions, his normalcy, his closeness to YW. We experience their relationship in real time. We see YW relax, test, choose, enjoy. At times it genuinely feels like Jo could easily be read as the main character. So the question becomes: why this much focus?

At the same time, Jo is rarely held accountable. He brings a gun. He fires when he doesn't have to. He inserts himself into YW's life and makes emotional claims that border on ownership. He continues intimacy when YW is unconscious, and the narrative never fully addresses that boundary being crossed. YW will never know what happened in the tent. Yet Jo is still framed as recovery, safety, a 'green forest'.

TJ, on the other hand, exists mostly through outcome, not process. Readers see manipulation, lies, toxicity - but rarely the off-screen decisions or emotional burden behind them.
Was TJ perfect? Hell no.
But did YW survive because TJ existed? Yes.

TJ stayed when YW was at his lowest. That doesn't erase harm, but it complicates the idea that TJ 'ruined' YW's life. What's rarely discussed is that despite wanting YW close, TJ repeatedly respected YW's autonomy by not confessing, by holding back, by letting YW choose - even when that silence hurt both of them at some point.

So why introduce TJ at all, if his role is to be emptied out by the narrative?

The fandom split reflects this imbalance. Some see TJ as pure toxicity and Jo as healing. Others see Jo as shallow and TJ/YW as layered and tragic. Both readings exist because the story itself refuses to fully engage with consequences - especially for Jo.

And then there's YW.
He isn't passive. He withholds. He redirects. He avoids commitment. He survives. He could leave without Jo - that was always the plan. Jo didn't give him freedom; he became a variable in YW's choice.

So I'm left with questions rather than conclusions:
Why does Jo receive intimacy without accountability?
Why is TJ reduced to a narrative obstacle instead of a fully examined character?
Why does YW carry the emotional cost while others are absolved?
And how much imbalance are we supposed to accept before we stop calling it romance?

What bothers me most is that in all this imbalance, YW is the only one who consistently pays the price - while the narrative quietly moves on. At that point, this stops being about who YW ends up with, and starts being about which characters the story allows us to question, and which ones it shields from scrutiny.

Maybe the real question isn't whether TJ or Jo is 'better' for YW - but why the narrative asks us to excuse one character's harm while magnifying the other's.

Make a choice. Or don't. That might be the point.

lmao there is no need to feel offended.
That an author even has to beg that their work should only be read legally and not spread via illegal media is laughable!

The author should ask nicely? Addressing the responsible people when we live in times where every idiot can upload chapters? You demand some rights?
We're all hiding behind nicknames.
Sorry folks, there is no need to act offended. Just accept that what is happening on mangago is completely illegal. Uploads without permission and consent are illegal.
Be satisfied with what you have. Mangago has so many things to offer, you won't even live enough to read all that illegal stuff which is here.
And whoever likes this webtoon should read it legally. That's it.
And believe me, I'm also not enthusiastic about every sentence the author has uttered on social media, honestly, BUT that is where desperation speaks. And the author is desperate.

What we are doing here is enjoying a hobby in an illegal way. A hobby. We won't die.
What is a hobby for us is their life. Their livelihood. Their income.

So pls just chill.

How can the author say they are desperate and that illegal reading "is killing them" and they get no money and then place a 1000$ (A THOUSAND freaking DOLLARS) PRIZE for anyone who has info on the illegal uploader. They are not desperate they are crazy.

That's definitely crazy due to the desperation and stress over this matter for months.

PEOPLE, humans, ARE capable of anything when they are desperate. One should NEVER underestimate, undermine or even smile at the severity of their despair, their problems, their worries and their grief!

When it comes to survival, whatever means is right.
And honestly, as long as licensed korean webtoons continue to find their way to illegal sites and every illegal reader continues to believe that this is something normal, something which will help the author (lmao), believe that illegal readers are entitled, have their special rights because they are all underage or broke, the authors are FORCED to take more blatant measures .

Do you actually know how many of these authors have other side jobs because the little they earn with the publication of their webtoons cannot finance their living, even though they actually plan it and want to do so but can't?

Yes, we smile at them all, that they even get the idea to have such wishes and ideas, because compared to other jobs, the job of an author is nothing. It's their own fault that they chose this profession. We just don't care.

In my opinion, this has to stop.
    We're all too greedy.
I have no problem with unlicensed works being translated by scangroups, but licensed works should no longer be stolen.
That would be a bit of a human compromise, wouldn't it?

And above all, it does not make any sacrifices, right?

And to come back to your comment: We cannot guess the extent of the emotional and psychological state in which the author is, but it has to be in a state of utter hopelessness.

Just a little more understanding, less indifference, more awareness, nothing more, it's very simple.
We are all part of the community. And we are all to blame.
Instead of making fun of a person's psyche and reactions via all available social media channels, we should all be intelligent enough to ask what reasons are behind it, to what extent we are responsible for and what we can do better in the future.

A little more decency does no harm, even among each other.

I didn't plan to write that much at all.
We all have no reason to be offended.

Does desperation excuse doxxing, putting a bounty on somebody's head, xenophobia/racism and death threats? No. Their mental health does not excuse any of these. How about we don't support an author all willy nilly cause they are uwu hurt because people illegally read their stuff when they have done all of these and acted like a physco online and offline.

yep yep not to mention other authors have already come forward professionally by contacting uploaders privately to remove their works from illegal website and it has been done with respect and no drama. In this case the author's behavior has gone way overboard and has also crossed the boundaries of legality, especially since the uploader HAS ALREADY fulfilled their end of the bargain by apologizing and making mgg delete the chapters. It does not excuse her crazy behavior

We are running in circles. I already mentioned that I am not thrilled and happy about every sentence the author has uttered on social media.

    However, this doesn't matter.

All sides are to blame, but the situation would not even exist in the first place if illegal readers had not continued to publish chapters of the manhwa.
If everyone continues to feel entitled to upload chapters because it serves a community which shares the same suffering, situations like these will occur in the future.

This is not a feat. Not a heroic act of a Robin Hood. This is where people who are already in a not so good situation are being robbed.

    This is not about justification.
The unauthorized publication of licensed manhwas must be prevented.
All of this is the result of many unsuccessful calls for rescue by the author.
But of course that part is ignored.
What I think of the author doesn't matter here either, I have my own opinion on that, too.

So please do not continue to distract from the basic problem.
The topic is not worthy of any fundamental discussion.

If someone has a problem with how the author dealt with the situation, they should take legal action or ask a lawyer they trust whether the behavior, the public denunciation and requests for real contact information in the form of a call out and baiting are legally permitted.
You can also contact Lezhin right away.
Instead of crying around in public, I also advise here: always choose the right form of contact.

Be brave in the right place.

Sorry but YES. Desperation causes you do many crazy things. She's not just "uwu hurt" or whatever you say. Mind you she's not a free artists but she produces art to sell. She's getting stolen and is losing profits. It's reasonable

I heard she got mad at someone who bought the chapters legally. Apparently, the author thought that the person illegally read her chapters but was proven wrong when screenshot of proof were shown. But she still acted crazy and psychotic. Ofc, I'm not entirely sure how much of this is true but I've heard from many sources saying similar things. Idk about you but I don't think this behaviour is bcs she's desperate. She was still rude to someone who gave her definite proof that they bought the chapters legally. If you wanna try and justify all her actions bcs of this one incident, you're mistaken bcs she's been like that for some time now.

After reading your comment I agree that she's definitely rude and went a bit over the top when reacting to illegal readers, but i still cant put all the blame on her completely :( i'm just saying she's being mad MAD is reasonable even though it's not nice to hear. But i wont justify her actions anymore. Thank u for explaining btw!

To me, a manga, a good read, is like a present, a gift I am looking forward to open and enjoy it so every day is like christmas to me. Many thanks to all translators and people who make it possible.
You introduced me to a lot of good mangas.
Merry christmas and happy holidays to all of you
