Stockholm Syndrome and trauma bonding happen under extreme power imbalance, repeated rape, isolation, and fear and it means he just knew who's going to target. Grace was his prisoner, being tortured and assaulted daily. Childhood feelings don’t magically erase that. Saying she didn't like him during with her captor, is missing the point ,trauma bonding can develop during prolonged captivity and abuse even with prior feelings. Not to mention that Grace was showing the Stockholm symptoms during her rape feeling guilty and feeling bad for her rapist by thinking he's falling in love with her.

The ML has reasons to be cold. I don't remember of it was explained already or if it's further in the plot but the novel makes it clear why he's like he is.
Yes this is what I'm saying because Ayla is also falling in love with him but he doesn't give a shit about her feelings or Thalia ,like he couldn't check on her in the carriage ,Edric does really care for her.
I didn't red the novel, however it's mentioned that because of his military training has made him cold which I understand but he needs to open up.

In general Barkas has also been through a lot and has his own fair share of trauma. His own father sent him away at a very young age to training that made him this cold. Ayla's mother helped save him and on her death bed asked him to take an oath to promise to always protect the twins. The more gets revealed, the more we get to see of Barkas' POV and the more we realize that the oath became like a curse to him. One thing that gets revealed much later in the novel is that he physically can't go against the twins. And there's one situation coming up in the manhwa that makes is very clear but it's still gonna hurt like shit to read. But hey, that's how the story is - pure pain and angst ┗( T﹏T )┛
