one devastating thing about this manhwa that i realized so late (i reread it countless times). in chapter 29, geumho sees a dream that beom died. after a while of denying it he just cuddles his body and starts saying "sleep beom" thinking he's exhausted. beom wakes him up after noticing he's seeing a nightmare, and he comforts geumho by saying "dreams turn out to be the opposite of reality" and we, at least i, thought "oh it implies that he'll live" but in chapter 73 (or side story 3) after geumho died beom cuddles his body the exact same way geumho did to beom in his dream and starts saying "sleep my lord". so the opposite wasn't "beom died in the dream so he'll live" it was "beom died and geumho lived in the dream so geumho will die and beom will live"
Yeah the symbolism and layering in this manhwa is great. Episode 51 is especially bittersweet reading in hindsight. Beom worried Geumho would catch a cold and geumho says he’s never caught one and beom saying his feet are cold. Ts hurts knowing geumho would go on to lose the use of his legs and die due to the bitter cold.
oh.. adding to that beom said he became geumho's legs to return home with geumho on his back and then after geumho died he said he ran even if his toes froze off to see the tree with geumho on his back. this also reminded me the panel that shows them walking on the snow hand to hand while bleeding from the soles of their feet. i also did find it agonizing how geumho died from cold when he said he's never caught one. but i've never tried to to connect these with what you said as a whole before. now kill me ('∩')
TS is heartbreaking. Their ending was shown so many times. It kind of felt like they would not last. Their connection going to even before they were born? The fact that geumho’s body never went limp could be that he was waiting for beom or waited until their last wish was fulfilled. I also like to think geumho was fighting the grim reaper that was chasing them. Im such a sucker for geumho’s all encompassing love for beom. It turns him into a bit of a coward and literally all he wants is to live
in a world where he can love beom someone kill me now. I’m gonna go and cry now :( this is probably my favourite of BWAT for plot and just deeper meaning on top of others but man I come back every time to punish myself
