Basically, people are thrown into some kind of a battle royal challenges tower, and the MC is fighting hard against these rules, to keep humanity and sanity, and save a maximum of people (it’s still absolutely murderous)
He has a small advantage/power that allows him to move on, and strong ethics.
To me it’s interesting as it challenges human nature worst, people driven by fear, selfishness or madness and it promotes reasonable trust and cooperation. (It’s not naive by any mean, but it shows that most people, given the possibility can also make right choices)
I do appreciate that it’s a healthy change from cynical stories where people measure life’s worth by the convenience they can get, and are calculative about everything (which by essence kills the notion of reciprocity, and true pro social behaviors)
It might not be much different, yet there are some small changes for exemple, the MC is a character who can choose to grow his perception instead of his strength or physical attributes, which is another interesting change. There are also different kinds of strength the are shown, not just muscle and power but also humane qualities
The pace is good too
I hope it helps :)
