It’s been a while since I read such a contemporary manga. I think it captures the loneliness of gen Z and our modern problems pretty well. Personally I don’t understand falling in love with the online persona of a person, but I do have friends who got married with someone they met online.
Plus can we agree that his parents are the cutest? I almost cried.

It happens. People grow apart. Some do, some don’t. While it’s sad, it shouldn’t be something you felt like it’s a taboo to even talk about with your partner. Plan for it, even, so if it ever happens you are prepared.
Normalizing breakup is not necessarily a good thing to do. there’s this thing called self fulfilling prophecy. always thinking ‘we’ll eventually breakup’ will only cause a breakup because you do not have the mindset to fight for the relationship. If my bf wants to talk about what what we should do if we breakup will make me think ‘this guy is not interested on being with me long term’
Anyway, what I think we need to promote is moving on in a healthy manner. No obsessing or clinging to a person who is no longer interested. No excessive drinking or partying or sleeping around etc
I mostly agree with you. I think “always thinking about breakup” is too much. Overthinking about anything is unhealthy. But it’s not a bad thing to discuss about it or be prepared. You don’t think the person is in it with you for the long term because you unconsciously associate breakup talk = not serious. Obviously it depends a lot on the tone of the actual talk and the nature of your relationship plus other factors.
I think my partner and I talked about how there’s no guarantee for “forever” around 3 months into our relationship. We both agreed. 10 years later we are still together. Like all tough discussions, a certain level of open-mindedness can keep it in the right direction.
I reread season 1 and remember why I initially liked this webtoon. Maehwa was always direct in his actions and there was no ambiguity in whether he likes Jaewon, and the same was true for Jaewon.
Meanwhile the second couple… this push and pull mentality has been past its welcome. You can kiss and cuddle and have sex but you can’t date because one doesn’t like changes and the other doesn’t believe in forever? Absolutely no progress. One step forward, two steps back. Geez.
I guess what I really wanna say is Yeo Nan should address his childhood trauma and learn how to treasure Guk because only in a comic that someone can be this patient and loyal.
I just received book 1 and after reading it, some of the pieces finally clicked!
1- the Black Sea monsters can possess people. Remember the prisoner who surrendered himself to the sea and was possessed? Alt say his eyes turned black briefly. Which takes us to point 2…
2. The rich dude’s wife is possessed. She can turn her eyes black. But that means they can live among people, get married and birth babies! Which then takes us to point 3…
3. Alt’s father was one of those! It all makes sense. His father left when he was very young. His aunt says his mother was never married. The Black Sea doesn’t harm him because he’s one of them. After being rescued by Elva as a kid, he said the sea felt nostalgic. The prisoner, after being possessed, appeared to recognise Alt and kept saying “it’s you!”. The rich dude’s wife, when meeting Alt for the first time, said she knew his father and wished her child grow up to be like Alt. Because it’s also a child between a human and a possessed! Perhaps it’s also why the black ink recedes when he’s within close proximity.

If my partner can’t help feeling uneasy seeing me with someone, I would refrain from spending time privately with them. This is not your beloved childhood friend; that’s your boss! Your partner’s peace of mind should come first.
I get it that’s he’s young and inexperienced and it’s his first job so he’s navigating it (poorly), but damn it’s so frustrating.
