After some time she begins to realize the duke is in love with the emperor(the duke hasn't realized this yet) so the empress breaks off the engagement and tries to hook up with the emperor after rejecting the empress multiple times the emperor finally agrees to the engagement. After this the duke realizes that his feelings for the emperor were romantic and tried to kill the empress. This makes the empress happy as she desires to have the duke attention whether it's love or hatred she viewed them both the same. After the engagement the duke cuts off contact with the emperor, the emperor who is extremely hurt from losing his close bond with the duke and the assassination attempts on the empress confronts the duke but the duke rejects the emperor pleads to stop and wanting to be close friends again and this makes the emperor feel betrsyed by the duke and develop a deep hatred for him. In the side stories the duke gives up his title goes on a fishing trip with the emperor and proposes a sword fight for the empress body. The duke inevitably loses the fight and the emperor has his sword on the dukes neck. For his final words the duke confesses his feelings to the emperor but the emperor hesitates becuase he knows he would have deep regret if he killed the duke and basically reiterates that all he wanted was to have a close friendship with the duke but the duke emphasizes that he wants to be in a romantic relationship with the emperor not friends after a moment of silence the emperor drops his sword and violently makes out with the duke and says he won't let the duke die and keep the duke by his side as "punishment" in his own twisted mind after that they violently make out again. The next time we hear from them Richard brings up a rumor of the emperor and the duke having an affair when the emperor questions how Kailus will continue the royal lineage feeling embraced the emperor ends their conversation.

This is an analysis of history accuracy of the setting Songs of the Waste Land since a lot of people seemed to be confused on some parts of chapter 1 this is not a meant to be an attack or defense for this manhwa. Please correct me on any mistakes I make. Chapter 1 starts off with the introduction of Gerald who comes from a wealthy family the phrase Blue-Blooded means some who comes from nobility descent or is high class. When the civil war started Gerald join due to his father pressuring him into it. This was common at the time as many sons went to war for a sense of duty, maintain the constitution, or in Gerald case his father wanted to gain economic and political advantages. Its important to note that despite Illinois being a union state its economy still relied on slave labor from the south and had Black laws/Codes(discriminatory legislation towards POC) The Ranch that Gerald inherits is located in Arizona/Utsh Monument Valley which is in the South its important to note Arizona was not a state at the time but a southern territory I bring this up because by this time in the story slavery is already abolished nationwide with the ratification of the 13th amendment but many southern states still had slaves due to legal loopholes, discriminatory laws, suppressing the news of slavery abolishment, lack of funds to travel, or deep family roots in Gerald case it seems many of them stayed due to lack of funds to travel and choose to stay at the Ranch. Also calling Gerald young master is history accurate as even with the abolishment of slavery some POC still called white people master out of habit, fear of retaliation or economic necessity. With the introduction of Ezra it is mentioned that he is a mixed race Native American Cattle Worker and is referred to as a cowhand, this is historically inaccurate as Cowhand is used to for white workers while cowboy at the time used used as a derogatory slur used to describe POC cattle workers. His name Ezra comes the biblical name azaryahu which means help, helper, or gods helper which fits his character as shown in the trailer of Ezra helping Gerald cope with his ptsd. While we don’t know the exact ethnicity of Ezra given the time period and location he is most likely from the Navajo tribe and is half white which is extremely sad because it heavily implies that Ezra a product of as it was common for white men at the time to SA Native American women and black women and if they were pregnant the child was sold into slavery or they were accepted members of Native American tribes. It’s important to note after the civil war the western indian war started which was the American government wanting to expand their territory into Native American land which resulted in the massacre, mass displacement, and cultural erase of native americans which heavily implies this happen to Ezra and he wants revenge on Gerald for inheriting his stolen land considering the revenge tag on manta

Because the name Erza(which means help,helper,God's help) fits his role in the story from what I have seen in the preview trailers. It's heavily implied that Gerald plans on committing suicide after selling the ranch due to his ptsd and grief over losing his family as a result of the Civil war. Ezra choices to stay with Gerald not because he's Gerald "slave" but because he wants revenge on Gerald family for take his ancestral land but despite this we see him soothe and help Gerald whenever he is going through his ptsd
It's doesn't fix my point, and it's my ultimate fear this the "Magical Majority Trope" please note the character doesn't have to be have magical power to fix the white MC he just have to be conveniently help him about his situation.
