I really love them, but I have to say she IS self absorbed —to me at least.
I do understand what trauma do to people and that she wants to prove herself (which given her situation I understand) but Riftan has told her so many times that he did not want her to get hurt which is why he did not want her to accompany them to war and she put herself in danger willingly just so she can get news faster. and she did not even consider (as she said herself) the fact that it would be a burden for him… like? isn’t that obvious?
then she miscarried and she didn’t think much about the baby, she is only scared about him divorcing her. She did not even reflect on her actions that brought this situation in the first place.
And then she has been acting so brave the whole time, but decides to leave with her father that has been traumatising her, so she won’t face Riftan. But really, she threw herself a pity party. her sister was mean in her words, but she was right.
I hate her father and yes, I’m happy they’re going for war. However, she always acts so selfless, but honestly, her actions are only done in a manner that would benefit her in someway with hardly any consideration for other peoples’ feelings. It’s not necessarily a bad thing. I’m just saying.

I don’t feel bad for Zigril but I do feel frustrated with Kay,
also the story is kind of weird in the sense that we only get the first consensual sex scene after the sides (that seemed to be the actual end of the story). I don’t know if it’s supposed to be just the end of the season but it seems like the author had to revisit certain things like:
- how did he allow gay marriages in the whole Empire and made him an Empress before we even get a fully consensual scene? That’s crazy! (not even talking about love he could just admit he really liked the sex and that would’ve been it. Now when they do have sex and he says no, we know he likes him, but it’s lowkey uncomfortable)
- This man is supposed to be the deputy knight, and I get that fighting monsters is not the easiest, but the amount of saving he needs? he could as well be a damsel in distress. And finally we can actually see him fight well ONLY when the merchant heir decides that it’s his time BUT EVEN THEN he still need saving.
And Kay is ruthless with him but two chapters before he was still rubbing a woman’s cheek like it’s nothing. AND he keeps thinking of Zigril when he’s with women anyway (even his ex). I get the gentleman thing but if you wanna be a player, then play, that would be way more entertaining than him just chickening out every single time.
I won’t even speak about the getting pregnant part cause that was crazy in itself.
I guess I can’t complain too much since it’s getting fixed now, but I don’t know, it leaves a bad taste
Ps: I hope to see the second couple again.
The plot is very bland, It’s fine if the story is predictable, but characters need to make it special in their own ways and it’s not happening here. It feels like a “here damn”
It’s been so difficult finding decent stories lately. This just made my skin crawl, I quit at chapter 6 mind you. What is this story supposed to make us feel?

i’m losing my shit. I’ve lost my shit for less. I don’t even know what to say… It’s been crazy, but that scene with Fabian is INSANE. I cannot put this into words there is NO WAY this can end well.
also the whole r*pe scene is crazy, I don’t understand why authors make us go through these scenes while trying to water them down like “but you’re so wet”. It’s already difficult enough to read, but I find it even more sinister when they try to make us ‘enjoy’ it. At this point, just call it for what it is.
I like the fl, but sometimes I get very frustrated especially since I’m reading the novel so you really have the details described, And maybe I’m just rambling for nothing and no one cares, but I’ll say it anyway:
I hate the way he’s always so comfortable touching her and MOST of the time she doesn’t say anything about it. I mean this man is always dragging her by her arm or grabbing her face, cornering her, pushing her down, shoving his fingers in her mouth and her private part and more. i’m just saying, if that’s a stranger how is this man so comfortable touching you as if you were an extension of his own body ? (in the novel, she can NEVER get him off her because he’s so much stronger) IDK THE ENTITLEMENT IS CRAZY TO ME
But the worst is how he’s always telling her to not look for her husband or look at other men, like the instructors and shit, but he can just get all touchy with her and she never questions it… like?? that’s her superior at work now. he’s dictating what she should not do with her private life moving into her apartment and at this point, he just woke up in her bed no explanation whatsoever like that’s just fucking normal.
DONT GET ME WRONG: The story is very good. I will be reading all 200+ chapters, I’m not complaining. I’m just feeling frustrated bc this woman is supposed to be SO unhinged, and IS sometimes, but she still lets this man do whatever.
I guess my frustration will go down depending on how much he suffers when shit will hit the fan fr.
