Shota refers mostly to their appearance and not theyre actual age. Looking young but actually being older. So yes I do like. For example in anime like Free Iwatobi the shota of the group would be Nagisa, he isn't a small child, he's already a high schooler. But his cute looks, body frame, and higher pitched voice defines him as one.

shota is a genre just like horror and science fiction are all of them being portrayed in fictional works., so should be taken lightly imo I mean i love watching the walking dead for example but there's no way in hell i'd wish to be in the characters's shoes even for a nano second irl But to each their own i don't mind nor like it personally... mo......
