ngl i dont think he ever had that romantic love for amber even when he was young. I think he was aware abt amber’s feelings for him, and knew that he needed to stay away because it was getting dangerous (both of their backstories come into play, esp Tennessee, so I rlly dont think he wanted that relationship). But everything changed when he got hurt in the line of duty, and since amber was doing SH, i think he just outright wants to avoid anything that can make things turn for the worst—which then evolves to both having romantic feelings for each other.
Here’s the thing that’s bugging me though, it never felt like Tennessee wanted that kind of relationship; it felt like he was slowly manipulated into it and was somehow convinced that he loves amber in a romantic way currently. It’s reminding me so much of the Tree without Roots, and the Approximal guide.
I would like to point out that the topic of him being a pedophile feels like a complex topic—sure Amber is 18 (or more), and legally (almost?) an adult, but his gap with Tennessee is just a leap, hence the topic of pedophilia, and theyre fucking in almost every chapter (when the relationship was established). However at the same time he isnt and wasnt actively targeting amber romantically or sexually. Like, do you see where Im getting at? Thats why i think this isnt plain black and white.
The story is fucking nuts though, why the fuck did the author even think of this story and even the title.
I didn’t finish the whole of chapter 1, I literally stopped reading when Tennessee told the tatted girl that Amber was in middle school and soon going to high school. This weirded me out since they were sexually involved not even 4 panels ago. I understand that he has “face blindness” or whatever but he does not have amnesia! He still was in this persons life as a child and even if he’s 18, an 18 year old manipulating a grown ass man is laughable! The author needs to go right to jail!
I’m pretty sure some chapters are time skipped to when he’s older, like 20-24, but yeah I thought the same. kinda weird
