I have seen a lot of people in the comments section saying how this story is unrealistically portraying corsets and i cannot help but disagree.
First of all even the most lenient corsets clinch the waist of the bearer by 2-4 cms, if put on before a meal renders the slight bulge in the stomach that we see after a meal not possible, due to this the space for digestive tract is compromised and thus the food cannot go down as easily causing constipation.
Corsets if worn regularly,weakens the back muscles which are usually used to support the body thus causing back pain when the corset is taken off.
If a corset is worn from a young age ie the formative years of bone development, then it causes the ribs to be unable to grow out properly (if worn on a regular basis) ,this in turn causes there to be less space for lung and thus less respiratory capacity. Less respiratory capacity means less oxygen for the brain and thus women often fainted when they exerted themselves due to lack of oxygen to their brain cause more oxygen goes to the muscle during exertion.

Yeah, this is actually generally accurate for most parts when it comes to how women's clothing was made to be uncomfortable, unfit for consistent wear, and unfit for movement because they were meant to just sit and not do shit for fucking nothing and if they did anything in a masculine role for the times, they were treated like whores and shit.
Well the corset evolved from stays. For the most part it was just for bust support and forming the front's outline in accordance with current fashion trends. For stays, it was a straight, angled front, you can see pictures to understand what I'm talking about. Then it changed to focusing on small waist. I will say that the thing I know for certain is misrepresented is the fact that there was a shirt-like undergarment worn under the corset, so it wasn't worn on bare skin. But as that trend became more popular, you started seeing the same thing happen as when china started foot binding. To match up to the beauty standard, they started girls young, so I can't imagine it would have been all too comfortable once it reached that ridiculous stage, but that was only a small period of history, and only a chunk of corset history. Not everyone wore them to that extent and many people (expecially of lower classes) didn't wear them at all. Once it became that uncomfortable, fashion naturally took a more comfortable turn, since surprisingly, people don't like being in constant pain and will change fashion trends after they becomes unrealistic and painful (like exactly what the queen in this story is doing, she's changing the trends). I do like many of your points though, you've certainly done your research and probably even know more about this topic than I do since I get all my info from fashion historians on YouTube and a small bit of research because I've wanted to buy a corset to forcefully correct my spinal posture, but like you said, it'd weaken my core strength, but frankly I don't have any of that to begin with, but yes the harms extra long term would be painful and can become irreversible. There is a reason we evolved to the modern bra we have today.
Last thing I want to say, the reason there were so many layers in fashion during that time was because of the little ice age. Much colder weather lead to more layers in fashion to keep warm. Him making lighter and more flowy clothing doesn't fix that temperature problem, but then again this is fantasy world, and who knows, his clothing might be warmer and thinker than I think, it's just now more easier to put on.
Weren't corsets basically the bras of that era? They aren't supposed to make the average woman thinner, but to support the boobs. They also helped to support heavy clothing by putting it on the hips. And women didn't just not do anything, they're half the population! That's a lot of labor. I know they worked jobs like seamstresses during the industrial revolution and even before that they'd take care of children (a full time job) or sew or garden and other thing for the household.
It wasn't just the corsets, it was cosets layered with other things that made it so dangerous. But most people who were like lower class didn't even use them until they became more accessible because expensive and hard to get your size tailored. Clothes wasn't mass produced

No I mean rich women sat around doing nothing, the ones who were majorly wearing the corsets in this period. They were pretty much just decoration and political bargaining chips, and when they were doing something in corsets it literally depending on how much further in history and if they were known to break stereotypes. Women in history who fucked shit up in a corset were fucking lit
