tbh i do feel like ian does have a bit of a point though because eunsan still won't be entirely transparent to him about his feelings, and from ian's pov it just feels like eunsan still doesn't have an interest in him beyond anything physical.
but also hockey was eunsan's first love, of course he is going to be fixated on it.
eunsan i need you to lock the fuck in
this is a shot in the dark but does anyone know where I can read this in Japanese or Korean?
qifrey and olruggio... what if we all died. WHAT IF WE ALL DIED
This chapter just proved why Eunsan had all those red strings in that one picture Pibi drew lmaoo... once he's no longer running he is a CRAZY flirt holy
BAEK EUNSAN U COWARDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD TELL HIM YOU LIKE HIM AND THAT U MISSED HIM FOR REALLL FAWKKKK
The next update (in KST) will be coming out on August 6th, aka the day they met... why do I feel like this phone call is either going to be the most wholesome or heartbreaking thing ever.... it just doesn't feel like a coincidence.
I like how Eunsan is someone who seems like he's going to have some sort of misunderstanding arc, but then he (usually) breaks out of this dumb bottom archetype by actually using his brain and thinking about a situation from all angles. Like he nearly thinks and overthinks himself to death on a lot of things but at least he's THINKING like damn... Like obviously things don't line up you KNOW Ian likes you too much to just have some rando on his back.
However jealousy is a disease and he's suffering from it hard. But I think a lot of his doubts stem from his low self-esteem issues, because deep down inside he knows how much Ian values him, but it seems as if he still has difficulties believing or accepting it. He overthinks because he can't possibly fathom that someone would devote themself that deeply to him. He puts the blame of his divorce on himself, sees himself as damaged goods, burnt out and past his prime, too late to return to the rink, and he probably struggles with abandonment issues because of his relationship with his father and ex-wife....
Ian is someone who is the direct antithesis to this thought process; the man basically tells him that he is worth everything and more. I think trying to deprogram Eunsan from this mindset will be difficult fr.
I keep seeing comments mix this up so let me lay this out (writing it out in Korean as well because it might seem more clear numbers wise):
IAN'S BIRTHDAY: August 5th (8월 5일), Ian is first asked if he wants "85" because players commonly use their birthday, but he declines in favor of "86".
EUNSAN'S BIRTHDAY: December 21st (12월 21일) ... hence why his jersey is "21"
THE DAY THEY MET: August 6th (8월 6일)
so that's why he chose 86 :)
I started off reading the English version but I was curious to read the Korean one too (Eng is my first language, but I've been formally educated in Korean). Cross referencing some of the scenes has been very interesting, to say the least.
The translator who worked on this did a fantastic job (especially with Eunsan), bringing a lot of personality to the dialogue and localizing Korean situations in a way that's a lot more vibrant for the average English speaker.
I will say it's a bit of a shame that the nuance of Korean honorifics can only be represented so much in an English presentation, but they really do their best! The scene where Eunsan and Ian go to the rink after the rainstorm is interesting, because he didn't /just/ call Eunsan by his name, he also spoke in banmal (informal speech). He made himself Eunsan's equal on a linguistic level. So the whole "who said you could call me that?" deviates from Eunsan's horror toward Ian using the impolite ~지 (~ji) instead of ~지요/죠 (~jiyo/jyo).
Really interesting. I love seeing how each version goes about events fr.
Went hiking with a friend and asked her how close we were to the top. She simply smiled at me and replied, "Melting Point" ... at that moment I knew we had already reached the peak. This shit is so, so good.
*deungsan (등산) means "hiking" in korean so its a dumb pun LMAO
bruh i'm stupid asf i forgot they met on Aug sixth so I was so confused as to why his jersey said 86 LMAOO
