That's the problem. A bond is absolut in the omegavers (*however, this only counts if the author doesn't change the facts to his liking. Omegavers isn't an exactly prescribed genre*).
In most of the omegavers manga the alpha can still mate with others, the alpha is not bond to the omega. The alpha doesn't have any site affects, like can't smell another pheromones. If the alpha dies the omega is still bond to the alpha, he can not be marked again.
In some omegavers storys the bond also doesn't prevent the pheromones from spreading to other alpha, like I said, the author can decide how the "rules" in his omegavers will be.
That means, if the alpha dies no one can protect the omega from other alphas or even betas. (Just imagine how terrible it can be for the poor omegas)

But it just made me wonder the "what ifs" you know... coz I haven't read one yet with such plot or a different style of omegaverse. its kinda sad for omegas really especially for Naoto (in Kiraide) coz what if his rapist marked him, he won't be able to mate with Hazuki and live with the love of his life right now.. Well, for omegas in general, if they can live together with the alpha that they love, its not bad..

First, the pair bond can only occur when the omega is in heat--though that can be induced with drugs, and usually is usually required during sex when pheromones are being released and mixed with the alpha partner...the bite is near the nape of the neck. If an omega is bitten outside of their heat no bond occurred. (Ref Yukyuu Omega and Omae no Koi wa Ore no Mono) Authors have a lot of latitude on that and also this...in general an alpha can bond with a harem of omegas but once marked the omegas can only have sex with that one alpha for the rest of their life. So an unwanted pair bite can be worse than rape in omegaverse.The omegas are protected since only the bonded alpha can detect their pheromones but that is the only benefit to them. Oh and if a bonded omega later meets their fated alpha they are SOL and cannot rebond. (Ref Shounen No Kyoukai).

I read a couple stories that hinted fated pair bonds died at the same time or if one dies the other dies soon after but only one of them made it actually happen in story Ref Dependency X .... QuiQui's mom dies without an alpha to take care of her).

I have seen a few stories where the alpha was able to cancel the pair bond and the omega found someone else. (Ref Toshi no Sa x Omegaverse BL)

Usually there is an explanation of how an omegaverse works at the beginning of the story.

It really depends on the author on how he/she wants to play out the story. It made me curious on how things would possibly turn out if the story played out differently, the unexpected scenarios I might say... Its just really sad for omegas coz most of the stories, they are at the losing end.Its like they don't have choice once they're bitten, forcefully like for rape case stories and such. And alphas will always be alphas. As for Kurui Naku no wa Boku no Ban Beta, our dear omega has been bitten by an alpha on his own volition coz the one he loves is a beta. There are some omegas who have strong personalities, and its kinda sad despite displaying such character, still there are times that they are taken for granted and being overpowered by alphas... Hey Afroluv it's been a while! thanks! ^_^ It kinda reminds me that they always show that particular chart or diagram on how omegaverse works etc., its just that I've been reading the usual run of omegaverse (though I'm not complaining ^_^) I was just like certain trivial questions just popped up in my head like 'was there something out of the usual?' or 'what if?...' and so curiosity won me over hahaha but thanks!
