This might be one of the five worst stories I've ever read. Fortunately, it finally seems to be over for good.

I've already posted spoilers before, so just scroll back if you want everything up to the end of the main novel. Obviously I couldn't cover every single detail, or it would've turned into an epic novel.
Now it's time for spoilers about what comes next, since I'm still reading and just finished the first side story.
Personally... I thought it was awful.
It has none of the tension or emotional impact of the main story, and worst of all, Grace feels like a completely different person.
The story takes place in Colombia about a year after the end of the main novel. Leon and Grace are married and have a second daughter named Olive. Leon has become a wealthy business tycoon (he had already moved all of his assets to Colombia years earlier because he'd always planned to settle there with Grace), while Grace works as a journalist.
Without telling her, Leon secretly buys the newspaper she works for. He keeps trying to get her to quit because he doesn't want her getting caught up in dangerous situations.
Eventually, a Colombian politician approaches Leon and tries to recruit him into the arms trade in preparation for a possible future war. The story makes some pretty obvious references to another world war.
Leon agrees, much to the horror of his sister-in-law (his former fiancée, who eventually married Leon's brother and had a son with him).
The former Duchess tips Grace off without outright telling her Leon is involved. Grace starts investigating, and Leon has no idea how to stop her.
Eventually Grace confronts him and reveals she already knew everything, that he owned the newspaper and that he was planning to get into the weapons business.
The old Grace would've exploded.
The new Grace?
She laughs, opens her legs, and that's basically the end of the conflict, with Leon promising he'll be a good boy from now on.
Seriously... it was terrible.
I've started the second side story now, and it already looks much more interesting. I'll keep you all updated.
This one takes place in an alternate timeline.
In the main novel, there's a scene where Grace leaves little Ellie (the first daughter she has with Leon, the one conceived without her consent) in a stroller outside Leon's house because she's determined to leave for Colombia on her own. Just before her train departs, though, she changes her mind, runs back, and finds Ellie still waiting in the stroller.
In this alternate timeline, Grace doesn't make it back in time. Leon gets to Ellie first, and she ends up in his care instead.
Grace, however, swears that she'll get her daughter back no matter what
