i liked to be optimistic and think that Ash didn’t even tho at the end it most likely he didn’t but IDGAF i’m saying my babies are in Japan together and Ash got to see where Eiji grew up

¨I've finished the manga and the ending is such a pain that I don't know how to feel anymore. So it's pretty clear that Ash dies but why wouldn't he go to a hospital? It seemed like he was about to go to the airport and likely to go to Japan with Eiji but in the end he chose the library to draw his last breath. It was kinda hard to take.¨

¨First of all, it sounds like you haven't read Garden of Light, the epilogue story. I recommend you go read that now.

And well...welcome to the club of people who've survived the BF ending. If you don't like it, don't worry you're not alone, most of us don't like or even hate the ending.

I'm definitely in the camp of people who strongly dislike the ending. I can understand Ash was in a bad mental state, but... the story of the manga up to that point was Ash starting to find self-worth and happiness through Eiji. Hell, even halfway through the final chapter he looked excited to go to Japan with Eiji when he found those plane tickets.

But... he gets a non-fatal injury and just lets himself die. After everything he'd gone though. When he was so close to escaping to Japan with Eiji and finally finding happiness. Just...sigh. It's such an unsatisfying ending, in my opinion. I'll explain things more when we get to episode 24 of the anime but yeah I very much dislike it and the message it sends.

I guess if you want an explanation of it. The author, Yoshida, has said she thinks its basically karma. Ash killed people, so he deserved to die himself. Also, like I already mentioned, Ash's mental state was bad towards the end, he didn't seem to think Eiji would really miss him. Like the Kilimanjaro story said, he didn't actively want to die but he didn't value his own life either.¨

so, to me ash is dead and it huuuurrtttsss, the fact that eiji is alone now............ gosh yeah i guess it makes sense i mean its not like ash was an angel but as a biased person it still hurts that he is no longer alive
i think eiji, whether he learns about his death or not, and whether he learns about it 6 months later or 20 years later, will be scarred to life, ofc i think eiji is really glad he got to meet ash but its not like he is a memory he will think about with a smile on his face and that kinda hurts when you got attached to the characters and when you think about how young both of them actually were...
