At first I honestly empathized with Kanae. I know the feeling of being surrounded by people but still feeling ignored and alone. She was completely wronged by her friends, but the story went downhill when she stooped to their level (and honestly went even lower). I have no sympathy for Kanae, she’s a sick piece of shit motivated by jealousy and revenge. And Narumi is an absolute simp.
Anyone else kinda annoyed by the way drag queens (and sometimes actual trans women) are portrayed in yaois? They’re always extremely masculine and buff, and made to be a complete joke. Their appearance is always made to look very silly, like “haha this man is trying to look like a woman!!! so funny!!”.
Actually, there's a pretty interesting reason for it.
Look up "okama". It's a japanese slang word for drag queen. Usually, these character's appearances are used as gag characters, so they would obviously be caricatures.
Personally, I think it's pretty funny IF IT'S A GAG CHARACTER. If it's a main character, then no fucking way.
That, my friend, is because yaoi is one if the worst portrayals of “gay” people (in quotes because most yaoi MCs denounce their sexuality). It’s a genre written almost entirely by women, and almost always for women audiences. It’s not made in favor of actual gay people. It’s just fetishization of gay men. Even the term fujoshi has some homophobic roots. It translates to rotten girl, basically saying that a woman who enjoys gay erotica is disgusting (due to the gay part). I’m not surprised at the amount if homophobia in yaoi.
sometimes we get shit like the okama, like the buff mamas like you mentioned. other times we get thin feminine ones, the type of 'girly boys' that some readers hate and wish for a "manly uke" or whatever. but then we finally something in between like mayonaka love alliance. either way, it's hard to please everyone. it's a pain in the ass to bother caring about it so i try not to be offended over everything and just let it be.
It's not supposed to properly portray gay relationships. It's female-made erotica depicting the objectification of male on male sexuality.
Also, Gay chicken wasn't calling you righteous. They were just saying that in this fandom, you can't say shot about rape, because someone will always call you out.
Ditto, I do apologise if you took it into offence, though it is my opinion. I stand by what I said, but I could have written it an a less harsh way. Oh look, a queer was able to explain what I meant. Many different people read yaoi, some like rape and the cliched tropes. Again, I do apologise for shooting down your opinion without noticing.
I love how yall are so quick to excuse shit like rape and pedophilia with “it’s just fiction! don’t take it seriously.” but apparently cheating is too far?
Say it louder for the people in the back!!
Hahahahahaha
