Maybe they were a fated pair, so everytime Asuka reincarnated he would met Kai. But their end always the same: Asuka would die because of Kai. I think Asuka's life force were sucked by Kai since Kai is a yokai. Theres a reason why human-yokai is forbidden, no? And now their relationship got deeper, and i think the more intimate they are the more Kai would suck Asuka's life force. I think thats why Kai hesitated and has anxiety everytime he touched Asuka.
And i was thinking that Asuka maybe got poisoned based on his dream, but what if his life already numbered by the time he met Kai? Thats why Kai couldn't do anything eventhough he tried to save Asuka (his bloody hand and Asuka is lying there, not moving). Basically his death look 'sudden' and the cause is 'poisoning' but its actually not. Hmmmm.

The panel before Asuka woke up. Asuka lying while bleeding from his mouth, and the long hand should be belong to Kai and his fingers are soaked with blood. Also Asuka has finger mark around his neck, so Kai probably trying to prevent/blocking Asuka to not swallow while also trying to take whatever inside his mouth with his finger. I'm assumming Asuka's food were poisoned by the broken plate and the mess around it. So, Asuka ate the food, vomiting blood, and Kai trying to prevent Asuka to not swallow but already too late.
