I fucking love bl ships that are posessive and that are mutally codependent. And I got no shame about it. Favorite bl is husky and his white cat shizun so it should be obvious from that. People who like that reply so im not stuck here on a lone island?
(P.s. yes i knows it problematic and that is the point)

I noticed when i leave comments metioning manwha/manuha is a novel adaptions or if someone is interested where you can read them there someone leaving a a down comment. Dont get me wrong it doesnt offend me (each to their own) but its strange. Is their vendatta against novels im not aware of? ( ̄へ ̄)

They usually get more world building and relationship development .
But its even weirder when the comic is an adaption like what y'all doing with ur hate ┑( ̄Д ̄)┍

So i been reading danmei/bl for 8 years now and i suddenly been wondering if thats strange. pretty sure were largely female (i know there guy fans).
There actual research for that https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1002/9781119429128.iegmc051
Which is was suprised about. But how large is the genre am i some rare creature

    Levi’sUndercut November 21, 2020 3:35 pm

The genre itself is pretty large for East Asian countries but rarer in western countries

Yeah ive noticed that. Danmei in china and southeast yoai in japan korea be doing both novels and comic. I guess slash fanfics are a thing in the west.
Idk im in the wrong part of the world ( ̄_ ̄)╭

*There is no professional research into this and this is based on my observations. Pls dont attack me. *
-Im not counting jp/kr novels cause its obvious there not that big and they usually get faithful mawha adaptions. *ONLY TRANSLATIONS* I hope y'all can help futher this question.
With China I would say danmei wins out mostly beacause while both jjwxc and sites like bilibili manuha get billions of hit. JJWXC wins out in views # for bl. Both have multiple free sites and i have no way to measure the views for that. While bl manwha has popularity everyone seems to know danmei like tcgf.(if that makes sense; story/world building likely have an impact)
With Japan unsurprisingly its bl manga. When metioned in other mediums of hobbies its always reading manga. I know mdzs got a jp trans and audio drama but idk wheter danmei has a market here.
Korea- maybe 50/50. (Kr novels get faithful manuha adaptions so doesnt really matter) So ridibooks is the Offical for danmei trans and those novels are usually on populor list for a long while. (Mdzs and 2ha have been on for month now) theres definitely a fandom. But views wise I say there equal exposure. Free sites are non existent.
Vitenam- danmei wins out. Ive seen sites for manga and novel's. But the focus seems to mostly on danmei. With people even creating software soley for trans. They also get offical trans. And untamed live action had a sold out promotion events.
America (Western Europe) - Manga/Manuha, likely due to anime popularity. In terms of votes and views the bl toons here are more "mainstream". This sites right here gets multi millions of views and there are other. I have no way of measuring danmei trans views, cause novelupdates only shows reading list #. (South America likely follows same trend)
Other country of interest was Thailand but along with other southeast countries I have no grasp on what sites are visted.
So overall I say it depends on country and regions. Again this based on my observations overtime but im confident I committed this with least bias as humanly possible.
Any help/clarification will be appreciated.

So the yaoi here get multi million views and there also the offical publishing if they have one. Along with other sites. The kr free sites usually dont have many views tho. Idk about other countries. Meanwhile jjwxc got billions of hits but novelupdate doesnt shows views only reading list #.
Then there other language trans whose views I cant see. The Offical novel trans like korean and Vietnamese are usually on the populor list for long periods of time.
So overall globally what do have more people read.
(P.s. i noticed regular world stuff/kinky is more popular in manga but with the novels it fantasy/romantic plot. Whats with that.)

Sad-Plant October 21, 2020 5:56 pm

K secret got about 160 milli views here and its published officially on other sites. But fandom as in fics, videos, art doesnt exist for it.
Meanwhile Painter of the Night got even more views and i have seen pics of it on weibo, Instagram, Cosplays on Douyin and scan pages. So clearly its got a fandom.
Finally we got Mo Dao Zhu Shi, the manuha adaption doesnt have many views but the fandom(fics art videos) exits for it. The adaption like the live action and anime were populor. The novel on jjwxc got billions of hits. But the english trans on novelupdate only got like 10k hits. But its koeran trans on ridibooks has been on the popikor list for a while
So which has been read and seen more in and outside country of origin and how to tell. Specifically if I was to go around asking which people had read the actual story for which would be higher.

views in relation to the rating and response it receives = popularity. the best example i can think of is something like solo leveling or suddenly became a princess (although these are novel adaptations)

I know views matter the most. But how to measure that across countries and should adaptions be included. Not to metion if theres a offical site or not.
Thats why i had the last one for the example. Its got offical novel translations that are on the populor list, like ridibooks. Its also got fan translation of multiole languages but idk hw to accurately measure those. Are people going to individual links or from a site.
That why i said if went around asking what would have more.
