Yeah, it is. I was genuinely surprised. There are 4-5 mangas I've read with that trope. In one, the guy liked crepe but he was embarrassed that he liked sweets so used to go ALLLLLL thee way to this food truck to eat. Two mangas involved this actor. I don't get the thing though :/
it's common in japan and people don't think much about saying it. it's similar to how you say "boys don't cry" or "men don't wear pink" thing. it's almost a saying. nothing deep.

Em Duolingo does have Japanese now they added it a short time ago. I'm learning Japanese on it there. But I'm not sure if they teach Kanji, they do have Hiragana though.

Memrise is nice for learning vocabulary. There are a lot of languages to learn on there. You could check it out. It's on both, mobile and PC. (A lot of Korean students use it, as well, because it features most of our books.^^)
