I felt like the Mangaka did a sudden U-Turn at the end. it's just a speculation from me but I think the Mangaka initially intended for Matsuoka to die.

it may seem to be just one of your toxic yaois but no, it leans more on realism. from the characters, environment to circumstances these shits really do happen a LOT.

The phasing is unique, it's skipping a lot but it was made sure to focus only on what's necessary while still maintaining the flow. it was simply beautifully phased.
The story is perfectly balanced, it seems like a short and fast story and yet we can see all the characters' role clearly, even the side characters are protrayed well.
And the ending? I'm crying it's sold out! and he can go wherever Takano is, let's just pray he won't be transferred overseas.

have you never seen the red string trope before lol? you sound like this is the first thing youve ever read about it. red strings connect two people who are the most compatible together, but that doesnt mean that the person has zero compatibility with other people. its like a love calculator, hara and the woman would have 100% compatibility, which would be written by fate and the number would never change, the same applies to hara and kaorus relationship. even though they love each other, their compatibility will never be 100%, therefore the string will never attach to kaoru because fate ≠ personal emotions.
if hara ended up with the woman, then theorically he would have been living his best life with her, but that doesnt mean it would be his happiest. the string isnt "useless", its basically a blueprint, a pathway designed by fate to give a person their theoretical best life with their most compatible partner. dismissing that isnt making the concept "useless" because in the end, its only a suggestion. its shown several times that the string tries to tie people together with coincidental meetings, but it does not directly influence emotions and desires, because again, its only a suggestion.

Finding such a well written and mature yaoi these days is so rare. There are so many ruined books with 'cheating plots' which you can go and read if this doesn't suffice you. And ups and downs in a couple's life doesn't necessarily includes "cheating".......that's literally the worst.

Yes, I enjoy reading Cheating Plots but just so you know that mostly left me getting infuriated to those character who have done that.
Maybe I like the thrill of seeing major characters (not just side characters) who have sinned towards their partner regretting what they did or at least seeing them getting beaten for what they did, but thats just my taste. it just happen, (as you said) Cheating is the worst which add to the thrill.
also there is no such thing as cheating plot being a norm at this point, there have been thousands of books or even millions that have already been made probably since the industrial revolution with at least a touch of cheating in its plot. I'm just simply looking for one since it's very rare especially for BL Manga.

I might have read alot of books which had those factors in it but I always mark on the basis of character depth/design, the story settings, art style, the pace of the story and other stuff.
