just had a stray thought while reading this. I ended up wondering if korean authors include rape in their fiction as a means of coping or if this is all they know how to sell queer stories. Although I do know there are bl manhwa out there that don't necessarily have rape it in, most of them are non-explicit stories.

It's quite common to see dubious consent to outright rape and sexual assault in explicit korean bl manhwa (tbh, even in heteronormative ones). Yes, there are some stories that that don't brush it completely under the rug and act like it never happened (this manha being one, low tide in twilight also comes to mind) but others do dismiss the atrocious acts done to their characters and the happy ending feels undesereved. The latter, i think, happens more often under the omegaverse tag.

For this story, particularly, while the rape and assault aren't completely brushed aside, it isn't completely discussed except in scattered bits and pieces and in tense moments so the ending (for me at least) feels a little bit rushed. Maybe that gets remedied in the side stories, if this manhwa is one of those that have them. But yeah the ending feels less than satisfactory for me.

Asil though has been fun to read as a character. He's strong-willed and contemplative. He's self-aware enough as a character that the decisions he chose aren't all too surprising, even if I, as a reader, don't agree with his choices.

If this does get side stories, I do wish we get to see more of Valerie's redemption cos that ending truly feels a little too rushed and we didn't get to see enough of his yearning and suffering.

bad ending aside, that felt way too rushed.

I also recall that people discussed spoilers for this story and this is a very differed portrayal from what I've come to expect.

This is too good I need to let season 2 marinate

anybody know what chapter 41 is in the novel

after 3 days, I have finally caught up. aaaaa I definitely love this series so much. It's a school/academy-oriented shonen manga and as the plot progressed, I love that it hasn't lost that essence of being centered around the school and it's students. Yes, it took awhile for plot to start plotting (which is why i reread this story in bursts every year) but for a cast as huge as this, it hasn't been boring for me at all. I loved reading about the backgrounds of the cast and some of its supporting casts and I hope we get to see a more in depth look at everyone's backstory soon (especially iruma, although that may take a long while yet).

a drastic art change and a violently rushed ending? sounds like the author got sick of this story or this went into the chopping block so the author waa forced to finish it

i really like the way they're handling the conclusion of this story compared to how it was done in the novel. i'm ngl, the climax of the novel was really good however the way they ended it left quite a lot to be desired, so i find this direction the manhwa's taking to be a bit better.

will Ines finally figure out that carcel knows of their past lives too find out in next week's episode of... TOPGEAR

they took a completely different direction than the novel. the other changes make a bit more sense now. IG it's to make things a little more palatable for a wider audience? and so it might sell a bit better too? idk but that's the feeling i'm getting.

this isn't necessarily a bad change, per se. I'm just wondering if the ending+epilogue will be the same regardless of how they change the climax of the story

or yknow, ask for a wfh setup? that's an extreme way of trying to cater to inwoo man

uh

Derrick never really saw Penelope as his sibling. And we did kind of see glimpses that he does possess strong feelings for our fl throught the series. So him breaking out of the "sister's" hypnosis at the news that Penelope was on the verge of death is pretty much a solid confirmation of what he feels towards fl.
I'm curious to know more of what he's thinking cos i mostly disliked him and his antagonistic attitude towards our fl. I find him pitiful as he could never seem to be honest with himself

They need to, somewhat amicably, talk and just be apart for a definite period of time 20 chapters ago. I love these two tortured souls, Don get me wrong. But this is exhausting, they're both exhausting. They need space and solid ground so they can get their shit together

We're so close i genuinely feel like crying already

As we've seen, different lock colors symbolize different feelings. Derek's is yellow which can be associated with jealousy or cowardice. So i wanna know. What the FUCK are you doing derek.

Although, it's not too farfetched to think that he's been influenced by that fakeass white lotus of a heroine. But either way, derek's been a disappointment throughout this series. I won't be sad if he gets offscreened.

This is such a beautiful story, exactly the kind of story I've been looking for. It also somehow reminded me of Fontaine and Egeria. I know that it's different but I'm just reminded cos of the black sea inhabitants (hivemind?) expressing their desire to be individuals
