It would be fun to actually have a main action story where two guys fall in love later after many adventures and is like "unexpected but not surprised" lol. Specially the surprise factor since the romantic partner could be absolutely ANYONE and it makes it all the more intriguing and exciting.
Like, romance developing from the start is nice and all, but you see it coming and can create bias towards the rest of the plot and world building.
Besides, it's not often you see pairings that actually live as individuals throughout the story come together so naturally at the end, be it BL, GL or BG.
