You'll now get where the inspiration comes from. And yes, it is a real painting. Yes, she was actually painted in this new style of dress that had the same freedom as nightwear. And yes, it became a controversial painting.
How did I know this: Studied in theatre and had classes on costuming so did some research on historical garments.

None of them. "La Chemise de la Reine" is a portrait of Queen Marie-Antoinette.
Oh! Just remembered something! Ok look up "A Stitch In Time - La Chemise de La Reine" You'll see what it is and see a reproduction made following the same methods of the era.

Why. Do. I. Always. Fall. For. The. Psychopaths!?
Well...I fall for both extremes. Those who are total simps and those who are total psychopaths. Both must have a tragic background cause I still have an emo heart.

I mean, there are different types of affection.
If he views that bird as his emotional support animal, to whom he can confide himself to, he would naturally end up feeling affection for it and might get possessive over that established master-pet bond. Affection doesn't need to be romantic.
That and they are in a warzone. So being possessive and jealous of others who could potentially take away that little ray of sunshine, who allows him to relax and express himself freely, is expected. She isn't a soldier. She is a bird.
A very bright bird that interacts with him willingly. She is there with him because she wants to! A bird who could fly away and never return since she is chained by no human-constructed social, moral, or ethical obligations!
He is the chosen one. The chosen master of this genius of a bird.
It will undoubtedly make him feel special and loved. And although I've never been on a battlefield, I think I would crave for these little moments where my rank and mission weren't of any importance for me to feel needed and appreciated.

Even Rosalyn's fake hypothetical baby (with another man, at that) is drawn beautifully whilst the groom's entire family all have squid heads lol!
He deems that Rosalyn's parents and her own offspring are all, by extension, worthy and great but any third party is complete and utter shit XD
He is simping hard

Me, an aspie with intense sensorial hypersensitivities that causes monstrous full-body migraines, nausea, aggression, selective mutism from overstimulation: ... I get him. I relate. I feel that. Hold on, boi. They say it gets better.
*feels an unhealthy amount of sympathy for a fictional character*

For those who criticize that falcons should be big and that she was made small to be cute and shit: She is a Mauritius Kestrel (Falconidae: Falco punctatus). An actual Falcon. Size is also accurate, and so are her markings.
They stand at a small, but confident, 20-26cm high.
For the visuals: In height, they are smaller than the 30cm ruler you used in calculus.
They usually weigh around 6-8oz, whilst their wingspan is in between 30-45cm.

Also. This is Fantasy. So even if the artist had not used an actually real specie to design her, there is no reason to criticize since it's a piece of media with a fictional and fantastical setting. Not a historically accurate piece of media. Fantasy.

For those who are interested: The Mauritius Kestrel is one of the most endangered birds of prey and belongs to the large Falcon family, which identifies 40 different known different species.

    gore.png May 27, 2021 3:57 am

Were they used as messenger birds at all?

    Ginie123 May 27, 2021 4:22 am
Were they used as messenger birds at all? gore.png

Not a lot is known about this specific specie's history that we almost wiped out completely... In the late 70's... there were only like...2 known couples?
It can give ya an idea of how much we had fucked up.
They are fairing better, now, but are still very endangered.

That being said, this specific kestrel is only found in the area of Mauritius, which was once a colony of England (and France at another point).

SO. Although I am too exhausted to research heavily, what I truly wish to bring across is this:
It is a known fact that throughout history, different species of birds such as Pigeons and Falcons were used in order to pass messages.

I would be surprised that the armies would only use 1 specific type of Falcon to do the work. Like... only 1 out of 40 without taking in consideration geography and biodiversity??? Nah.
And during the invasion in Mauritius, I wouldn't be surprised if they used them.

    Most importantly:
If the artist decided to INSPIRE themselves from REAL history for her FICTIONAL artwork set in a FANTASY world.... She could've just looked throughout all the 40 Falcon species, knowing they were used as warbirds, looking for one that would catch their eye.
They liked the Mauritius Kestrel. It's a falcon. It checks out. They use it as a reference for our dear FL. Tadaaa!
Like... I am autistic and even I ain't as picky, sweety. And we are known to be hella rigid.
Sometimes, artists choose to convey things that aren't relevant at all with reality either. And it's ok. It's called creative freedom AKA not restricting ourselves to standards that would restrict our art from exploring different ideas, techniques, and avenues.
So please don't get hung up on this. Don't let this affect your appreciation of the hard work they have put into this manwha. Alright?
On this, I will go and sleep before I pass out.

Thank you for the ID! I figured she was some sort of kestrel, but the only ones I've seen are American Kestrels and their coloring and pattern is very different. I have heard that kestrels are easy to train and good for a beginning falconer.

Thanks for these precious informations :D
Even if the numbers go higher, dna can’t regenerate when there’s such a small number :/ endangered species reproduction is managed with dna from centralized organization nowadays, but consanguinity will always be a problem :/

Haha well, remind me of an eagle, a small baby eagle. I think people took falcon as the same as eagle because of their fiture (they're included (classified) in the same order, though in a different family) + remind me of the falcon in Marvel ( ̄▽ ̄)

Btw, I don't think this falcon was ever used in any war as a carrier. As to the previous mentioned, this bird has vanished in 70's (don't know whether there's left or some mix-breed or something else), it didn't acquire to me that someone would use such a rare bird that was predicted to be doomed if they were ever sent as a carrier. Pigeon is the bird usually used as carrier back in war time or once upon a time era. I was wondering if an eagle or big falcon could become a carrier (maybe yes), but I've never seen the actual ones (I want to see one…)

Anyway, asking. How exactly we differentiate an eagle & a falcon in one glance? It looks quite the same in on one glance (I'd only seen them in pictures, but I always thought that there' similar like twins at some point)

Not only are they too strong and hard to train...
Eagles are BIG. They would be better as attack birds than as scouts and messenger birds. You could see them from miles away and KNOW it's not normal to see such a big bird in the area. Easy targets.
They need birds who have a good sense of direction, are fast and agile, can be trained, and can pass under the radar when flying.
A kestrel is small, very agile, pretty fast, smart and has a colouring that can make them pass as any other bird, from afar.
If they were to take... let's say....a Cooper's Hawk.... It's at least as big as an owl and their distinctive blood-red eyes would attract attention. That wouldn't be a wise choice even if they also have earthy colouring. They would stand out by their size, overall silhouette and colouring of their eyes.
They need birds that can blend into the lanscape.

I keep seeing updates of this but like... I think the furthest I ever got to is 20 chapters in... It's simply so confusing, bits are missing, there is some censure, some pages are mixed around and the plot in itself isn't that well constructed. It has potential but my ADHD brain doesn't see the point in wasting so much energy by trying to stay focused when it's not even it's fault that it keeps straying away.

...Was I the only one who knew of what pearling was? I mean...Never saw one, but if you know a bit about body modifications...you end up knowing about it...Also pearling can be done in the labia, for women. ANYWAYS, it's not that unusual just like some girls get their nipples or clitoris/clitoris hood pierced.

As someone with these types of depressive episodes that are becoming more and more frequent, this hits home. But not in a bad way. I have this weird thing where I can't allow myself to cry or get angry for myself... Self-pitying either. But I get highly upset for others. And so, I usually use fiction as a way to get those emotions out... So having, this time, a character going through hardships that are so close to mine... I think it helps a bit, in a way.
