Actually, with the help of a few spoilers + a family tree photo from the spoilers (tho technically it's not a spoiler anymore since the chapters have caught up) — ML and the Winterwald are in no way related to the royal family except for the late Princess Vanessa. ML and FL also are not step cousins since no one in the Winterwald (ML's aunt or uncle) married into the royal family bfhdbdd.
