That girl really bothers me. And his father just had her on his lap even though she's a student and Shirotani saw all of that! They both kinda piss me off, even though his father means well.
Well-meaning? I'm sure that's how he rationalizes it to himself and his kid. "Look at the nice mommy I got for you." In the end, this "well-meaning" dad used his position and privilege to fuck a student, and listened more closely to his ego and his penis than his kid, putting the youngster at risk. But, he's not a bitch, so that excuses everything.
He's such a nice and "well-meaning" guy, so when a professor diddles his own daughter, well, papa will just buy her a nice dress and that will make it all better. It's so easy to let clean-cut professional men coast. They never "mean" any harm.
im pretty sure PhoenixPlume320 means that shirotani's dad didn't mean his son any harm...
I get what you're saying: Shirotani Senior doesn't understand that his irresponsible, selfish, sexually exploitive and chauvinistic behaviour is traumatizing his son who just happened to, overnight, loudly reject the idea of a teenaged stepmother, lose his appetite for even favourite foods out of anxiety and violently rebuff displays of affection which he always welcomed before. I get it. I really do. I also say so he's ignorant? Big Deal! No excuse. Even if you're a single father, your kid always comes first. You notice your kid acting up, you don't let up with the communication until you find out what's wrong. If his personality changes radically and the only explanation is the simplest one, the most obvious change which is going on in both your lives, you put your own personal happiness aside until it's also okay for your kid. You don't go barreling through with your personal desires until it works out for your family. He's a shitty excuse for a father and a man.
I hold the dad to be more responsible because he is the adult and the parent, and it's his job to be protective and observant. However, I do see that the teen was malevolent. Though she was obviously not mature enough to handle an adult relationship, taking it out on the child was particularly nasty, and she is old enough to know better than that. I don't think she's a slut, but I think she's abusive (even as a baby sitter). The dad is the one who should be checking the sitter and making sure his son is well taken care of though--and not having sex with students either.
In short: They both suck.
Do you know that saying about the opposite of love isn't hate, but indifference? That's Shirotani's father. Sure, the girl was malevolent and she certainly sucked, but take away her fear of the future, and her feud with the boy would vanish (probably along with her relationship with the father.) Shirotani was falling apart in front of his father, and the only thing the guy wanted to do about it was offer him a hamburger.
Like maybe Haruka Nanase from Free? Loves water, quiet, observant... And Abel reminds me of Makoto.
