“they’re 16 and 20 so it’s not pedophilia
I always wonder if it's a regional thing when I read people complaining about the age difference between two young people (I'm not talking about the situation when one of them is young and another is old)...
16 and 20 year old dating is pretty common in my country and it definitely wouldn't be considered as pedophilia so I just can't understand what's the problem...
Exactly normalizing it is exactly how they get you. There’s a clear difference in a 16 year old and a 20 year old one being that one is a clear adult while the other is a child. Age of consent doesn’t determine the maturity of a child it just sets the standards for pedophiles so they don’t get caught.
Sorry but I don't think there's that much difference between 16 and 20 year old..if anything 20 year old people are usually still pretty imature too. They are at different stage in life I get that someone might be uncomfortable with such relationship and that's perfectly valid but I don't think it hits the criteria of pedophilia - like in this case Fujima doesn't act predatory and Yudai doesn't do anything against his will. I feel like sometimes people are too hung up on ages without looking into character's actions at all. Just my thoughts..I'm not here to stir an argument.
Thank you for your take. However yes there are clear differences not just stages of life but of course in maturity, as a 20 year old myself I honestly can’t relate to my 16 year old mindset anymore, so what business would I have forming a relationship with one. It’s not necessarily about how the characters carried themselves in the story, because of course they’re trying to romanticize the whole thing, it’s really about the morality and seriousness of the whole thing being romanticized as if actual children aren’t being groomed. If you don’t fully understand I would look into it just for the sake of awareness.
I'm aware that actual children are being groomed in real life and I've definitely read manga where the older character acted creepy/with bad intention and their inner monologue made me uncomfortable.
But that's not the case with this story...so I guess I was just pissed off that people are complaining in the comments when it's not actually that bad. You are right that it's romanticized but at the same time their relationship feels very real in a sense that you can't choose who you are going to fall in love with and teenagers usually don't act how they are supposed to.
Should the authors stop writting stories about messy issues because it's considered wrong? I don't think so. An adult person should be able to read even problematic stuff, think about it and make their own opinion.
