I know a lot of people give a lot of shit to this story, but I appreciate the update. Idk if it's just me or if there's a lot of newbies/ lightweights here that don't know that this is fiction.

Felt lol but it's also why a lot of asian authors are starting to hate the western side of the fandom calling them wet diapers or smth

    autumn May 18, 2026 8:32 am

i think it’s incredibly silly to call people “newbies” or “lightweights” simply for expressing discomfort with rape in media…??? if something feels upsetting to someone, they are allowed to voice that…countering that with “it’s fiction”….yes, obviously it is fiction that does not suddenly make people incapable of having emotional reactions or discomfort toward what they’re consuming. fiction can still be disturbing. using rape to “progress” the storyline when it isn’t needed at all, and will most likely be brushed off, is in fact, disturbing

agreed, but also to OP this isnt a new discourse bcs this topic has been around for a lot of time if youve been reading since the dinosaur ages of manga (super lovers era or even older piece of bl media) the readers have always complain that authors always put these controversial themes on the table even though they are avoidable or dont aport so much to the story u can criticise readers for complaining bcs u are commenting in a public space but what u said its untrue so i wanted to clarify that

    ocarinas May 18, 2026 10:46 am

God forbid people criticize adding rape to a story because.., rape. You sound like an incel using “Newbies” and “lightweights” as if people aren’t allowed to read and critique as they read through the story. If anything, you’re the “newbie” after seeing “rape is bad” in the comments and thinking “wow, rape is bad? Seriously? It’s just fiction.” You sound stupid

    lgeb0625 May 18, 2026 11:23 am

Calling people lightweights for not liking rape in their romance is so tone deaf, even in the yaoi community (for someone who has been here a LONG time)

    Nobody May 18, 2026 11:38 am

Seriously? Rape is tough and traumatic, and people have every right to feel discomfort and disappointment because of overused and normalization of rape topic in media, when topic is not addressed correctly and literally brushed off later! Fiction is there to be engaged emotionally into the story, that's the whole point, where there is nothing romantic in an abuser-victim dynamic! It shows no respect to the topic and readers when series was not even tagged as a rape related... I read all volumes of this series and yes, rape was totally unnecessary here, used as a pathetic angst trigger without any input to the plot! Yes, it is a fiction, but authors and readers immune to tragic/sensitive topics brought up thete are real!

please clarify exactly what i said that was false…??? uhm, yes, i can criticize op because, as you said, this is a public comment space. so now i’m somehow wrong and my statement is untrue…? mind you, this entire discussion began because op was dismissing people who expressed discomfort with it by calling them “newgens” or “lightweights.” rape is a serious subject, and i think it’s fair to engage critically with how it’s being discussed. if op were approaching the topic with more nuance or critical thought, i don’t imagine this conversation would have unfolded this way to begin with

Of course it's okay to engage with the reading, that's part of the reading experience. What I'm not okay with is those who totally disregard others' hard work and effort into bringing this story, out, and those who shit on others who like the story. I'm not saying rape is okay-- Of course it's not! It's just part of the STORY.

i haven’t personally seen anyone upset with others simply for enjoying the story, but your comment felt dismissive of critical engagement with media. you can absolutely enjoy this story, no one is saying otherwise(?) but being unnecessarily rude toward people who find certain content disturbing feels a bit strange, doesn’t it? and your comment, in particular, makes it feel as though you may not fully understand why people are upset in the first place, because the discussion continues to frame rape as though it is merely a narrative device rather than acknowledging sexual violence. we do not need rape to elevate or progress a storyline. there are countless other narrative to explore without resorting to that

to add, an author’s hard work does not place their work beyond criticism. if someone chooses to write about a deeply triggering subject of that nature, then criticism is an entirely reasonable. these are grown adults, fully capable of understanding that engaging with serious subject matter invites serious discussion and critique!

Exactly this, authors take responsibility for their work, yes, this is fiction, but their readers are real people and should be treated with respect, because exactly for them authors make those stories! I don't know where this belief comes from that an author can do anything without any consequences, we all take responsibility for our work and decisions, same author! And criticism is part of consuming media, especially when author decides to use heavy topics without any reason or addressing this later. Readers won't take everything the author comes up with without a word of protest, they even shouldn't, because the story is addressed to them, and readers can share their disagreement regarding actions in the story and author's choices, especially when they were unnecessary and have no impact on the plot later, so literally used just to be used, that's called poor writing... as even in fiction, each action should lead to future consequences and be reflected in the plot...

What's with some of the comments saying he started liking her when she got skinny...? Did you even read it..? He liked her before that because he liked how happy she looked while eating.
