Plastic Girl (furuya Usamaru)
Very unclear. The universe created by the author in this story is a mess beyond the mess.
A Collection of Horror Comics
Yuganda Kishi
Such a powerful story! I wish if there had been more!
Journal for February 5th
This could be labeled more as a dark humor oneshot than a horror manga. It portrays the insecurities faced by a mangaka triggered by an e-mail he received from his editor. This is probably a mangaka's worst fear: not being noticed among the other artists or losing fame after struggling a long time for it. Those insecurities transform themselves, in this oneshot, into a nightmarish unreality. The drawing style is unique. From it, we realize that the artist isn't afraid to use the techniques he has picked up either inside the classroom or from reading books related to drawing and sketching. This is a promising artist. I would give him a shot at any time of the day.
Yoru O Aruku Kanemasu Aya
It is great that the mangaka rendered his drawings using a hatching technique. It is unfortunate though that the meaning behind the story is completely obscure; which is very rare for me. I still have no idea what is going on in this oneshot!
Model
Great art. A wonderful romance between a vampire and a mortal woman. The end surprised me but made me quite happy.
Blow-up
I did laugh after reading this but it is such a weird story, though the author is trying to convey a point of view which was thought of smartly: "how existence is made?", "what is the smallest particle in the universe?". Now, I am thinking like the male lead in this oneshot! Okay hubby, this is yet another sleepless night, let's have sex
:D .
The Domestic Yapoo
This manga receives one star because I didn't like it, and two to three stars if I were to assess things objectively. This story is after all full of symbols and represents a certain vision enacted by fictional characters on paper. This is the "tale" of a futuristic society ruled by "white" women who overpower "white" men and enslave men and women of other races. Yapoo are men slaves from the so-called "yellow" race. This story revolves hence around racial prejudice and stereotypes. It also portrays the cruel betrayal of the loved ones: Clara, the German woman, abandons Ren, who used to be her fiancé, to his sordid fate shaped by her own decision as she, as a goddess, baptizes him in urine! Love, charity and compassion are hence lost in favor of a present where women subdue men, treat them as "human toilets" and transform them into tools destined to satisfy all their desires and sexual needs. I think that what is shown in this manga doesn't depict S&M practices because the men didn't consent to it. What we see in this story is the total annihilation of men epitomized by the emasculation of Ren. This is a symbolic element in the story: it represents the triumph of women who confiscate men's genitals and turn them into a weapon (a whip) against them, and a tool for boosting their own ego. This is yet again one of those controversial stories which show how love, for some people, become twisted in the mirror of their sexual impulses and twisted fantasies.
Goth Cage
This graphic novel possesses a beautiful art which is the reflection of a unique style. The artist is also skillful in his storytelling capabilities. Each word has its own place and each story is told in a compelling voice; it also ends in a masterful way. The artist's storyteller voice could be described as being poetic and enchanting.
