While i do think the execution of this flashback was poorly done, come onnnn the lad is innocent, and he'll be dead in a few chapters, poor dude.
But yeah that's the risk when you make flashbacks this long, you risk losing your audience's interest and making them loath the current action as they wish to return to the present :/

My reason for it is because the flashbacks make them seem like scums. brain and our mc is the same person, but they feel like different people to me.
Seeing the ml with Brian feel like he's a cheater or he just see our mc as substitute.
