it's 9 am & this chapter got me sobbinggg. so many things to cry about - the fox twins, abe haruaki & abe no seimei & their respective mothers, kurai & the nyuudou family, etc. i was about to say i love how kuzunoha was the only one who knew both abe no seimei & abe haruaki yet distinguished between the two of them perfectly well + made it clear to the two of them that they're different people, but it makes sense that of course she'd say that - she's their mother. she wouldn't claim abe haruaki as "her" son, because hers is abe no seimei, & abe haruaki is her reincarnated self's child
also, i wonder when will yuuta tell haruaki about their relationship? haha... they won't suddenly say he's haruaki's grandfather that ebisu went to see right...? though iirc, his grandfather didn't have any onmyouji powers at all left while yuuta still had that ability
also - i wonder if abe no seimei had a twin the way abe haruaki does? if he did, where'd he go? if he didn't, i wonder if abe no seimei had a twin who lived beside him, he would've been protected the way abe haruaki is protected by his too
i swear a couple chapters ago, selene & mercphobia met? i binged from 162 to 215, & iirc, they had met after lucy broke mercphobia's lacrima & wendy broke selene's, then selene took them somewhere with her transportation magic. why are they acting like they j met after 500 years? there was no indication they were attracted to each other that time too. am i j tripping & confusing things though? was it not selene? i swear she even asked mercphobia to lend his aid
also, i gotta say, juvia's... really turned into a gray-centered character... i appreciate how she's still so powerful & intelligent, but it's always reduced so quickly to a gray-centered gag :/ i think their fight vs the sea-prison (? poison?) dragon was still okay, but her fight with faris' demon where she was supposed to save melody... i know she //still saved her//, but her behaviour lowkey was a bit much for me then. i usually don't mind it at all because i'm genuinely happy that she's so, so happy now & lives in the present & for the future, but hm, smth j felt a bit much this time around. i feel like it's how there's j an overwhelming amount of enemies + characters, so none of them get to be fleshed out, so sometimes what's shown would still leave an unsatisfactory feeling :/
i'm saying this as a decade-long gruvia shipper, mashima just can't write female characters. theyre either there for comic relief, fan service, or the at least one required powerful (but not fleshed out!) fmc.
the sad thing is a lot of his female characters honestly have interesting powers—for me, that's juvia and mirajane. by default, their powers should be strong and have lots of scaling potential. mirajane should rival everyone in zeref's book. juvia is literally water, which is nature itself.
but of course, bad writing by male authors will ruin that for us
simply, there's a korean saying when your partner is much older, that they're a "cradle thief" - stealing a newborn baby from the cradle/"baby sparrow". i j thought that was a really nice word play/insertion & i really appreciated the translator for letting the saying stay, since i know official translations would usually localise it & take away the fun word plays/local (korean) writings haha

i wish gestella popped into frame with cat kayden in her arms j like in jiwoo's house. i wanna see their shocked faces when they see kayden as a cat
