I do see why it’s confusing.
The paneling is goofy at times, and the way everything is translated can be a bit strange.. and sometimes it’s just a bit hard to follow and I can’t even understand why, it just is. BUT despite that if you can get past its little tweaks and confusing parts, it’s good. 4 out of 5.
So Sisyphus in Greek mythology was the extremely deceitful founding king of Corinth, who constantly escaped death.
His punishment in the underworld for being deceitful and cheating death was to roll a boulder up a hill over and over again only to watch it fall back down (remember the boulder in the first few chapters!!)
So.. taking into context that Guwon can’t remember anything.. maybe that’s part of the punishment for something.. and if the hounds of Sisyphus are doing Sisyphus’ work.. maybe Guwon is Sisyphus? OR Guwon IS the one being punished for something he did.. Sisyphus ended up getting shackled and tricked Thanatos in Greek mythology when Thanatos came for him.. and used his own shackles against Thanatos.. so maybe the tattoos play a part in something? And if Sisyphus constantly escaped death, maybe that’s how zombies came about.. or maybe that plays a part in the zombies somehow.. also, Teach has a bigger role to play here. He’s not just a regular person, he could be at the center of all of this somehow too. I have a lot of theories but isn’t it ironic how Guwon AND teach have lost their memories?? Connected..? Maybeeee..
i accidentally replied w/out writing everything anyway with guwon being an allegory for thanatos, teach trying to trick him and (hopefully) following through with a storyline parallel to the myth, the only part that doesn't really fit anywhere are the hounds, so they could either be the ones responsible for the punishment of sisyphus/teach, or be the ones loyal to him and his burden and turn against guwon. that's my theory thank you very much
this is kinda what I’m also maybe thinking too!!! I just have a lot of different theories altogether and don’t exactly know WHAT to think!!! I’m trying to figure out all the parallels too and the thing that doesn’t fit for me either are where the hounds are supposed to be! Teach being Sisyphus fits and Thanatos being Guwon fits, but Guwon being Sisyphus and Teach being Thanatos also fits. AUGHHHH. Thanks for the Ted talk Ahahha.
