So basically Martina didn't know this was the same curse, because Present Theodore was said to turn into a beast. That's why she freaked out hearing that guy who returned the portraits mention how one of the earlier dukes died, which was exploding as a beast. That was how she connected the dots. Plus, Past Theodore didn't show signs of turning into anything as far as she knows because he secluded himself and she killed him per his order/request.
Now, the confusing bit where people seem to think Martina knows how to cure it when no one had any record of how to cure the curse besides the Shitty Brother, Waldo, is that the Dukes family DOESNT know how to cure it and she barely learned it in the present. The Duke family would just have the current head married and have an heir before he would succumb to the curse and die in the end in case yall forgot.
Also cmon people. Literally seeing Present Theodore everyday triggers her trauma for Past Theodore. Lol. Past Theo was literally her last hope and light and she took his life per his selfish request. Ye, they had doodoo communication and she loved him, BUT the point is that she couldn't forgive him or give in to truly love him at the time due to all the political strife and then his illness. You see how angry she was with him. Fast forward to Present Theo and she has lingering feelings for Past Theo on top of not quite being "in love" with him just yet- just growing more fond of him. Now, she's not just freaking out with what happened to Past Theo, but is now panicking for Present Theo.
Not only that i also remember that past Theo didn't tell the whole truth to Martina and that he somehow betrayed her and it was all connected to their relationship and their love as far as i know. The past Theo didn't truly and wholeheartedly love Martina as I understood it. He was using Martina by making her fall in love with him and trying her to break his curse because there was a rumour that the people like Martina (her clan) could break curses. Later on he grew fond of her, we can see that but it wasn't true love and maybe that's why they couldn't break his curse and he chose to die by being killed in so called "riot" even tho it was all arranged. And that's why Martina is so heartbroken because she finally understood what was going on and that's why she can't open her heart so easily especially to the present Theo which looks exactly like the past Theo. That's my conclusion, idk if I'm wrong but yeah.
What I'm about to say about this situation is (kind of) simplified:
You know... I don't know if it's just because of my own family dynamics and how I was raised to view and treat my family, but it makes me really sad to see everyone say he shouldn't forgive his mother. He has every right not to, but that doesn't mean he shouldn't.
This arc isn't about her.
This whole trip was him coming to terms with a lot of his past problems that still haunt him and affect him and his relationship(s) including the lack of love from a genuine mother or mother figure.
While I agree with people who are saying that her sob story is no excuse, Winter is in need of moving past it all- even if that means speaking to and forgiving his mother. And Violet knows that. Yall are saying she's gonna be typical nice FL and convince him to forgive his ma, but she's shown time and time again that there's DEPTH in her thought process. It's not always about being nice, so even if she tries to convince him (which I don't know if thats what itll be at this point in ch 140) it's not going to be some half asked "but she had it hard too, just get over it" moment. Even leading to this point, Violet never pushed that kind of narrative. She genuinely cared about how not only his adoptive parents acted towards him but also his birth mother. She also knows he needs some sort of assurance that he wasn't just dumped on the road because his mom was living the high life and didn't want him in the way or something.
Point is, I believe people need to get over their pettiness in wanting to withhold forgiveness and just wish them both a better life. Violet is an angel who deserved no wrong, but Winter is a wounded soul who deserves to know love and freedom from his past shackles. (〜￣△￣)〜
P.S. this applies to everyone who thinks Violet shouldn't have bothered forgiving Winter and going back to him. Obviously from this chapter she knows that fate isn't always kind and misunderstandings and poor situations tear apart relationships in the most unfortunate ways like hers and Winter's. Yet, she shows sympathy and empathy towards Him who couldn't understand or know.

I agree. Her character setting is literal Angel with big heart. But that doesn't mean she forgive it all. She took her time to heal after her struggle. Then she stand up for herself and fight against the world
Mam, I like this series, but what's with the back n forth between the characters? They're really indecisive and I'm not sure if it's due to the characters themselves not being aligned or not since every time they shift opinion, everyone goes along with it until one person questions it and then they shift back. Lmao
2 isnt pushing that leadership role because deep down he wants to agree with ijin so hes asking the group's opinion.
