No relationship directly per se, but bottom was there when top’s mum collapsed (and she later died from that incident). Bottom only recently realised this and feels guilty because he thinks his interaction with the mum caused her collapse. He also took advantage of the situation to steal Top’s parents’ stamp (basically our equivalent to signature) so his boss could forge some fake sign away of the property Top’s parents owned. So, he’s feeling responsible for the pathetic state top is in/what top went through after
