I don't get WHY there has to be a standard when liking someone, cause the thing that bothers me is if there is no respect nor any consent at all in a relationship rather than age or appearance or anything. Cause sometimes standards ruin things by stopping you from interacting or trying out something that may actually just be for you rather than be for other people's acceptance. But regardless...opinions differ.

Of course it matters objectively speaking that intales how likely that relationship will work and last .If you're too young and haven't really done the work to figure who you really are as a person and you're dating someone who's too old or too young for you that would be challenging for both of you and in either cases one will have the upper hand and try to control everything little thing about the relationship and that's how at someone point things will get fucked up and someone ends up hurt that's how most cases are and that's the case when one of the two isn't toxic.One example comes to mind is billie eilish when she was 17 and dated someone who was 6 years older and she had to deal with all of his psychotic side and that even affected her mental state too , it isn't rainbow and fluffiness all over like you might think , it can turn dark really quick sometimes too
