He does love her but he doesn’t realise it till far later in the novel. We already know that he can’t feel emotions so as time goes she starts to trigger emotions in him and he keeps denying it thinking that it’s “natural” to feel that way. His actions can imply that he loves her (you will see this eventually) but he doesn’t say it out loud. That’s all I can say without spoiling it.
