It depends on the story. Like if they realized that they are not happy with each other or not compatible with each other and decided to break up and then go to their on ways yes I would say it it is a happy ending. But I would like to know what happens after their break up how they healed themselves and found their new happiness. Then it is a happy ending. Suddenly ending the story does not. Because I don't look to their relationship I look at them seperatly. They are their own people and have their own journey. So basically it depends on how the story evolves. I spoke so much.

Yes I would . Rather than making the main leads end up in a forced way (which most stories do) I would rather want them to move on with someone new for their happiness . It also keeps up the suspense about what's gonna happen . But in most stories it's too easy to tell who are they gonna end up with no matter how many other leads there are unless it's a harem . The 2nd leads Have now become a trope to make the main leads jealous ;-;

often, like in real life, things can't be categorized into one extreme of "happy" ending or "sad" ending. If a pair did not end up together due it circumstances, life or whatever, a pair that we grew to support and love them as individuals and as a couple, even though they might be both mostly happy, and we readers feel happy for them, it might be a little bittersweet as well, depending on how the story portrays everything and how used to seeing them as a couple we are. So it really depends, and usually life events are not filled with a singular emotion
