Nah, yeah, rape has always existed in BL, but nowadays, it feels like it's becoming much more prevalent and normalized. We might get one healthy story for every ten fucking stories that graphically depict rape and then try to justify or romanticize it. Older works had these themes too, but they weren't necessarily reaching the same massive audience. Now that BL has become mainstream, these stories are reaching far more readers. I can literally count the number of BL manhwas that don't have rape. Most of the time, it's either shounen-ai or a story without explicit smut. Otherwise, there's almost always a fucking rape scene, whether it's the ML himself or some random side character who suddenly shows up just to rape the bottom.

That's why I think it's become much more prevalent. Even among ongoing manhwas, you keep seeing it everywhere, whether it's The Flashlight, Cherry Blossoms After Winter, or others. It's not just about rape existing in BL; it's about how frequently it's included, how graphically it's portrayed, and how often it's romanticized or used as a convenient plot device.

Well if it's been a part of the genre for so long and all these stories with rape tend to be top 3 everywhere maybe it's cause people like it why would they keep doing something the audience doesn't like? And you're exaggerating. We have plenty of green flag stories, I scroll past them all the time to find something to read. You're just not looking enough/only looking at the popular ones

How many BL manhwas released in 2026 have genuinely healthy relationships and absolutely no rape, whether it's committed by the ML or some random side character? Can you count them and compare that number with the stories that explicitly depict rape, often graphically?

From what I've personally read, I can barely count two or three that don't include it. I've even read so-called green-flag stories that still included rape committed by someone other than the ML. So, just because the ML is a green flag doesn't mean the story itself is free of rape.

You're acting as if the existence of some healthy stories automatically disproves the concern about how frequently rape appears in BL. It doesn't. And I'm clearly not the only one noticing this; multiple readers in these very comments have pointed out the same trend. Instead of dismissing everyone as newgens or claiming we're simply not looking hard enough, maybe acknowledge the actual criticism. Saying there are plenty of green-flag stories isn't proof that they're proportionally as common as stories featuring rape. If you're so sure, name them and compare the numbers instead of just making vague claims.

Never said they were as common, I said there's a lot because it's what people like (newgens aside). From the top of my head that I've read recently: guiding hazard, heat protectant, the s class guide sweet as honey, so who got screwed (adorable), regression in 3 seconds, a bunch of jp ones... the list goes on. And I'm someone that isn't a big fan of green flag ones cause I scroll past a bunch
