I want to preface with this I think the LOV are well written and complex bad guys with excellent motivations and back stories. They are people who have been ostracized and struggled and that makes them relatable.

But I am terrified at how many people actually think them winning is a good outcome.

Just in the last few chapters alone should be enough to prove the point I am making. gigmanchia or whatever his name is. Godzillad his way through 3 densely populated cities. He leveled buildings and residential areas. The league did. Not. Blink.

Is the system messed up? Most likely yes. Is there discrimination? Absolutely. Does this country need change? No doubt.

Do I think a group of people who were perfectly okay picking up where chisaki left off with Eri if they had gotten there hands on her are the answer? The same group of people led by a tortured and brainwashed young man whose only wish is absolute destruction so he feels better?
No. Absolutely not.

I know its a manga but we can not ignore that their wish isn't for a better world but to punish and hurt others because they were hurt.

Dabi was willing to kill Shoto despite knowing he went through the same pain.

Toga wants a world where she can stab and kill as she pleases.

Shigaraki wants everything dust because he wants someone else to blame for what he did to his family.

The paranormal society want to eliminate the quirkless to move forward in evolution and create a survival of the fittest world where everyone can use quirks how ever they want and the strongest quirks have all the power.

These dont sound like world orders I'd like to live in.

The best part of this manga for me is that I cant confidently say either side is the good guys. Just sides that have less terrible implications than others.

If you agree with the leagues reasons then okay. But if you think their methods are acceptable.... well then we have differing viewpoints on how much violence we can ignore.

Reading the comments I feel I interpreted Satois intent differently. Like I felt he was trying make a point or show Soutarou what it looks like if its only take take take from one side. And for Satoi he wants Soutarou to stop idolizing him like he's this perfect doll Soutarou must please.
I mean thats how Soutarou is acting, as if Satoi is a shallow doll easily won with nice words and a pretty face and its insulting. Its really really insulting. Satoi response wasn't healthy and Soutarou doesn't seem to the emotionally capacity for this relationship. Feeling pretty toxic right now tbh.
I Dunno I feel Soutarou treatment from the start has been like that or a fan more than a lover. Like Satois not allowed to be a flawed normal human with doubts and fears. Nope he is just "perfect". And thats not really healthy. Satois just a clumsy lovestruck idiot too yah know. He's imature, a teenager, and he wasnt right and he doesn't know what the fuck hes doing. And if Soutarou could realize that they might have a shot.

"I kind of laughed when Satoi said Soutarou was the one who was self absorbed.

Soutarou: People will find you weird if you're with me

Satoi: Ok. Oh I see. Then talks about his own problems with Mifune.

Look at the way Soutarou stays away from Satoi after that. For Satoi's sake. He said "If people think Satoi is weird for just being friends with me. What if we're dating?" Oh look at Soutarou, so self-absorbed trying to protect Satoi. And he is thinking all this, the moment after he got bullied. He is not even being afraid of being bullied more, he's afraid for Satoi.

Soutarou: Don't tell Mifune about your crossdressing. People said you look good together. You won't need me anymore.

"You won't need me anymore." Basically telling you that he thinks that you're with him only because of the secret. Which is it really wrong? When did Satoi ever tell him the reason he loved him. They got together at the start because Satoi thought Soutarou asked him out knowing that she was a he. Then after all that drama, it was Soutarou who confessed that he likes Satoi both as a guy and a girl. The only reason he hurt Satoi at the first place when he found out that Meg was actually a guy was because he himself was bullied by a girl playing a prank so it isn't difficult for him to believe that Satoi a cool kid, would play a prank on him as well.

Satoi: You ever think about me and my feelings when you say stuff because you're the one hurting and insecure?

    Hmmm. But Soutarou is self-absorbed."

Satoi has not once actually told Soutarou why he liked him. Soutarou can only guess it's from the fact that Soutarou accepted him and knew about the secret. Satoi could have talked it out. Satoi have to realise he is actually being self-absorbed. He expects Soutarou to be able to have so much confidence when he has done nothing for Soutarou to have that confidence. It is not that farfetched for Soutarou to think that Satoi is only with him because of the secret because Satoi agreed to be with him(as a girl) because he thought Soutarou knew of the secret. SO Satoi is not at all blameless.

Actually he's worse because he has exacerbated Soutarou's insecurities. I have friends that would ask their bf if they look fat and would get so upset if their bf told them they were getting chubby. But here is Soutarou telling his bf that he is too weird for him(after getting bullied, knowing that Soutarou gets bullied for being weird. I mean Satoi's own friend bullies Soutarou) and Satoi did not do anything about that. Seriously?

Satoi has so many chances to be supportive to Soutarou at least ONCE. When Soutarou dressed up as a girl, Satoi called him ugly. Isn't that great?

I don't know but Satoi's treatment of Soutarou has always been of "Hey I'm happy I get to crossdress with someone and they know that I'm crossdressing." Like Soutarou is nothing else but there for Satoi's own confidence. So easy for me to twist it around huh?

yup, I agree. I saw comments like the other one above and it puzzles me why some people absolutely want to disregard anything wrong that Soutarou did because Satoi fucked up. It's not like Satoi was someone who would rape Soutarou at first. Refusing to acknowledge the impact of Soutarou's actions on Satoi is really just wanting to look at one side of the story and that side alone.
The fault of one doesn't disappear or get negated the moment the other's fault is more important. It's stupid to try to think who is more at fault and ignore the other factors of the situation.

Did you really just try to justify it by saying that we should see Soutarou's actions on Satoi's first that caused him to do that? Seriously?

It does not matter the action that Soutarou does. If your first reaction is violence then this is your own problem. If your reaction to someone simply TALKING to you is violence, then there is something wrong with you.

So what? Since Satoi ignored that his boyfriends gets bullied, ignored that his boyfriend doesn't feel worthy of hanging out with him in school because he's too weird. I should be able to punch Satoi right? I mean I'm not the type to punch first but Satoi's actions makes me want to punch him so I should right?

Your reasoning is nonsense. Nobody's at fault for YOUR OWN violent reactions. If your first reaction is violence then that means that there is something deeply wrong with you. You don't get to blame others for that. That's what abusers would say "I'm not the type to hit people but you made me do it" You are repeating exactly what abusers say. Please check yourself for abusive tendencies.

Seriously this manga may have some rough scenes but the Freaking Ai being actually loved as he deserves and having someone he respects make the decision that's best (freeing him to live well) is just so worth it. Like... this story is great and the couple just amazing. They even communicate on the tough shit like what is actual sex and consent and like wow... "I dont want you do it out of obligation" ╥﹏╥ thank god Ai got a good man to love him properly.

I could not stop reading the Earls dialogue in the most 'gentlemenly' english accent I know of. Like Captain Hastings from Poirot or something similar. It made it twice as amusing and ridiculous.

Sorry, I rarely have this much trouble with a manga, and I don't want to shame anyone who enjoyed it but damn that was an unhealthy manipulative relationship. This my friends is called emotional abuse. I have never had such a strong reaction to a character as I did Hideaki but it was like reliving my own 8 year abusive relationship all over again.

Only wants to see you when you stop chasing them- Check
Lies to ruin your relationships/friendships and isolate you - Check
Crocodile tears and a sob story when you get mad - Check
Distraction, never actually deal with the issue, change subject - Check
Jealous and possessive to point of real anger - Check
Ridiculous expectations of you that they consider normal -Check

Seriously peeps, abuse isn't just with fists. And it doesn't always come with insults and ugly words. Gas-lighting* is the sneakiest emotional abuse, its hard to notice which makes it one of the most difficult to escape. And just like every other kind of abuse the abuser either isn't even aware that they are being abusive or they have justified it in some way, so talking to them about it is like throw penguins off cliffs hoping they'll learn to fly. Hopeless and unhealthy.
.
.
.
* Gaslighting- Crazymaking, purposefully making someone question themselves or their sanity through manipulation. (Gaslighting can occur in many forms, it can actually appear positive as some forms use praise as a way to win your trust and then use that against you later, like making you feel special and then they threaten your special-ness in some way causing you to act as they please to regain it. Similar to positive reinforcement training used on animals but much more subtle and unpleasant.)

It was like they took the 'sadistic/two-faced seme' storyline, some daring/weird sexploits found in the smut/ecchi categories and the out-there comedy I'm used to seeing in Shoowa sensei's works, mashed it up and this was the result.

Maybe because it was so short and couldn't expand on any one of those themes fully, but it left me more confused than anything.

I will give it this, the seme was pretty unique in his attitude (though he does remind me of someone). He really wasn't textbook two-faced/sadist that's for sure.

    modragon December 14, 2016 8:48 pm

Just realized who the seme reminded me of... the seme from Harada's Messiah series, in the third part. (Warning: to those who are unawares Harada is known for fucked up/twisted and the Messiah series was no exception.)

I know, I didn't read that the first time. I have a habit of skipping things that are not directly part of the story. The second time I actually read it all and was like "HOW DID I MISS THAT!"
I'm normally pretty good at recognizing these details. ┗( T﹏T )┛

modragon December 12, 2016 4:21 pm

I think in defense of Chapter 3 that story was more about the girl gaining new experiences, finding out more about herself and having the freedom to make her own mistakes than it was about the romance.
Not everyone's first time is with their true love and not everyone's stories are all roses and peaches. You have to be infatuated and find a few duds and stumble a bit before you can get anywhere.
She was repressed and lonely and curious and this older guy was fascinating and different from what she was used to and she was looking for different. She got stung a little but she also grew a little. I think that was what she needed to find what she really wanted.

I personally really liked it, its nice when manga isn't always this unrealistic 'perfect' sugar coated disney-style crap that media tries to tell us love is like. ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
