Okay, is it just me, or has this story taken an incredibly dark turn out of nowhere?
It is implied, more than once mc while being tormented by that horrid girl also suffered sexual exploitation. I mean, the videos she's being threatened with is just one aspect. Even the tone of this manhwa was starting off dark and now it's shed all pretenses.
Mc was isolated, emotionaly and verbally abused for YEARS and the fact that the themes are getting more explicit is surprising to you? My dear, the rest of us could see how this story wasn't really going to be a happy one from day 1.
It has never been implied, much less shown, that the childhood friend sexually abused him, much less prostituted him to others.
And the video is being used against her, not the other way around.
Furthermore, I don't want to compare the harm of abuse in a toxic relationship with rape or forced prostitution, but it's clear that the protagonist hasn't been sexually forced in any way, much less prostituted or sexually harassed by her, given that when he had enough and the courage to say no, he left her of his own free will. She could only resort to foolish tactics to get his attention, while here she is being literally coerced, first with the video of him as a child, and now with sexual videos of herself, and now it has reached the point where he could ruin her life...
Honestly, all of this has come out of nowhere ( ̄∇ ̄")
they probably mean the genre "psychology" has been present since the start, so it is not that weird other stuff that can cause distress to the characters showed up there. idk whether psychology is a real manga genre but you got the drive. and knowing japanese manga, they often use that kind of stuff like teenage prostitution, forced prostitution, blackmail, class bullying, isolation etc to distress the characters. it is kinda cheap sometimes, especially when this manga started to get fluffy but then it decided to, nope the distress isnt over.
also it is the way it is told rather than just the event. there are a lot of toxic relationship depicted in romance manga. however the way it is told here is kinda extreme and the mc also has extreme reaction and real trauma about it. so it isnt simple drama but psychology. however i wont fault you for saying there is no hint. this manga actually can go either way, and the author just decided it will go the dark way...
so there are readers who say it is sudden and there are readers who say it is obvious and there are readers who realized, ah now i think about it, it is not weird it has taken a dark turn. it is just a matter of perspective
I still think it's gotten extreme out of nowhere, but I can live with it...
At least one thing I can praise about the work is that they're not using all this to excuse fanservice rape scenes...
It happened to me with another "dark psychology" revenge manga, where for "some reason" all the "bad girls" (There was bad guys too) ended up being explicitly raped and shown to the reader (╬ ̄皿 ̄)凸.
Obviously, I had to drop it ┑( ̄Д ̄)┍.
yeah plot-wise it is sudden, like dial up 50 to 100. coz they just switch from the fluffy pairing to that suddenly.
for me, when hanabi had those gophers really loyal to her, i already wondered whether she had slept with all of them bc it looked like she has them brainwashed when she was revealed she wasnt even that master of manipulation.
i even guessed that after she blatantly abandoned the blonde, i can imagine the blonde will take revenge on her, like maybe kidnap and rape her, and make her as a pet in turn. coz like your experience, it is somewhat common in manga, when a male character want to take revenge on a female character that usually the plan. sometimes it is the whole plot, sometimes a side quest, sometimes background character etc.
tbh i'm also a bit surprised that author choose this road instead of just focusing on the main couple. they probably want it to stay dark and darker
I think you and I read very different genres of manga XDXDXD
I've gotten used to the trope of minions who are like idol fans, where they do everything a girl says because she's their "idol" without expecting anything sexual from her because "she loves everyone equally" lmao
Anyway, in my opinion, when authors do things like this, it's because they need excuses to maintain drama and attract sales, in this case using shock value.
Not really to my liking, to be honest...
my example is taken from psychology or seinen (or even tragedy) manga, should be similar genre with this one. but those stuff tend to take from reality (the dark side) and exaggerate them. if you dont read those genres a lot then it is no wonder you feel more surprised ( ̄∇ ̄")
i dont think there are a lot of guys that will do "anything" for a girl, except maybe if they are family or lovers.
you may mean there are guys who will help out a girl without asking anything in return, but it doesnt mean they will do "anything" without gaining anything. idol otaku is a different breed, and even them probably expect something out of their idols.
if you have a lot real life example of guys like this tho, probably you live in a very good place.
╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
It's not that I don't read those genres, it's that I know what to expect from them and they maintain that vibe throughout the entire work, unlike here, which was a romantic comedy until it took a dark turn out of nowhere.
And you're so innocent, I was talking about simps in general, lmao.
(To be fair, they do do things to "get something in return," but the difference is that when the girls don't give them that thing, they don't suddenly become psychopaths XD)
Although I was talking more about anime and manga tropes than real life, to be honest, and I don't like making comparisons to real life because it's very prone to generalizing or exaggerating when it comes to manga...
Personally, I'm both "for" and "against" it at the same time.
Because honestly, it depends on the person and their circumstances, and it's very arrogant to make a decision for everyone else when each person's life and circumstances are different, especially if you're in a privileged position, whether financially or in terms of health (at least in terms of health).
In an ideal world, there would be no need for euthanasia because everyone would die happily of old age with dignity, surrounded by their family while being cared for. It sounds wonderful, but it's not reality, and the important thing is that people have the right to decide how to die.
Of course, there's a difference between euthanasia and suicide, because euthanasia is due to something beyond your control that forces you to decide to end your life even if you'd like to continue living, while suicide is more difficult...
Something I believe is that euthanasia should be something only considered when there are no other options, since life is sacred, but so is the right to decide for oneself, even if it's one's own death.
What do you think?
im also both for and against, it doesn't seem right to give so much control over a life to someone else. but it's always a case-by-case basis, like is this what the patient would have wanted? would the patient still be able to live a fulfilling life after they woke up? have they been comatose for a year? or 20? how do we know that the decision lies in the hands of the right people?
it's a cool (and super sensitive) debate topic
(tw: su*cide mention below)
it's somehow both humane and inhuman, like if a person who attempted somehow survived, is it humane to put them on life support at all? some people change their mind and some don't, so it's hard to say...
or like, if a family can't let go of a family member they've been holding onto for xx years and the price of the hospital bills are sending them deep into debt, at what point is it the "right time" to let go?
personally, i would say "pull the plug!" if i were the one injured/ill to the point of life support, but could i do the same for someone else? probably not...
such and such, yknow? in a perfect world, fate would just turn it's wheels as is right and those who needed to pass would pass and those who needed to live, would live
Thanks for your reply <3
Something I forgot to add is that it's important to remember that you always have the right to change your mind. It's not uncommon to have a different opinion on these topics when you're over 50 and your body starts showing signs of aging compared to when you're young and healthy, not to mention financial circumstances or whether you have more or less family or friends to support you.
And then there's the feeling of seeing a loved one suffer and having to be the one to make the decision...
That's why I don't like making definitive decisions in these cases, whether "for" or "against," because every life and set of circumstances is different...

Am I the only one pissed off by the last chapter (77)?
The teacher basically took advantage of her, not only because of her age and his position as a teacher (He was literally paid to educate her, and he took advantage of that trust and privacy to manipulate her into having sex with him during her learning hours), but because she was still young or didn't personally understand the concept of romance or couples, and he basically instilled in her the idea "just say yes to every guy, because if you don't you'll hurt them and they're more delicate than you", but she never prioritized her own health or opinions, I mean, she doesn't even show that she likes sex in general and yet she has to suffer bad rumors and hang out with people who only see her as "easy", AND SHE THANKS HIM FOR THAT!?
Honestly, it's disgusting...

I have mixed feelings about this manga.
On the one hand, I find it one of the most psychologically profound and complex works that delve into trauma, sexuality, and gender identity, especially from a female perspective.
On the other hand, I hate how it reduces the entire concept of femininity and womanhood to "attracting men and having sex with them"...
I understand that the protagonists have a limited perspective due to the trauma they suffer, and that it's more of a critique or satire of the sexism in Japanese society, but I would have liked them to also show femininity from a perspective that doesn't involve men...
