The MC wasnât a grown man ârefusing to stand upâ, he was a severely traumatized child who grew up under an openly homophobic, abusive father. He was beaten, controlled, and conditioned to be afraid for years. That kind of fear doesnât just disappear because you âshouldâ speak up.
When the confrontation happened, the ML himself understood why the MC couldnât speak, and we see that in the chapters too. He knew how dangerous the situation was. Expecting a abused teenager to suddenly defy his abuser is not strength, itâs a fantasy.
As for âhaving the audacity to be madâ,the MC isnât angry that the ML moved on. Heâs dealing with guilt, trauma, grief, and unresolved feelings after a forced breakup caused by abuse, a car accident, and his fatherâs death. Those emotions arenât entitlement; theyâre human.
Reducing all of that to âhe didnât stand up so he sucksâ is just a lack of empathy and basic understanding of how abuse and trauma actually work.
