I remember watching this as a kid and it didn't click in my mind that the 24 year old man was supposed to be the love interest, for me it was that black-haired kid, but like, why ???? why is Hayami the grown adult playing around with a 13 year old ?!? The story is compelling but the romantic aspect of it is really creeping me out.
Honestly, I came from the anime, haven't read the manga yet but how can anyone hope for Hayami to end up with Maya??????? He was 24 when he got interested in a 13 YEAR OLD CHILD?! HOW CAN YOU SHIP THAT?? EXCUSE ME? and from then on, he kept GATEKEEPING HER LIKE AN ACTUAL GROOMER how can no one see that??? He was 24 and he is waiting for her to mature? DOESNT THAT CREEP YOU OUT? The whole anime I was so so against their interactions, it was so disgusting but that is the sad thing, this anime's plot is so so so good but the romance is BAD. He was waiting for her to turn legal so he can put his hands on her CAN YOU SEE HOW BAD THAT IS???? imagine if he is not handsome at all, the most ugliest man on earth, he would have been called a Pedophile already. OMG so disgusting, he has plenty of women his age that likes him but NO he wants to look at a child who is honest to him ( SHE IS A CHILD OF COURSE SHE IS HONEST ) and yeah she is talented and amazing for her acting but after the acting she is still a CHILD. ISTG when he mouth fed her medicine when she was sleeping I GAGGED UGHHHHHHHHH why do they always need to make OLDER MEN GOING FOR UNDERAGED GIRLS?? She might seem mature to you but that doesn't change the fact that you're interested in a child. She had plenty suitors that are around her age too and the author gotta throw that away for this OLD MAN. EVEN HAYAMI KNOWS HE SHOULDN"T LIKE A CHILD. Like that first bf she had, this older man and the secretary separated them and the reason was he is an idol it will be hard for Maya and him??? and after she breaks up with him, their conversation was that she is finally all yours???? LIKE WTFF EWWW NOT ONLY DID HE DELIBERATELY MADE HER MUM AND HER NOT MEET AND THAT CAUSED HER MUM'S DEATH, HE EVEN SEPARATED EVERYONE FROM HER SO SHE CAN RELY ONLY HIM, if that's not groomer and manipulation behavior, idk what is and if they end up together, the author has a few loose screws. It is still not okay if she falls in love with him when she is 18 or 21, it is the fact that HE waited for her when she matured, their relationship will never be okay. ughhhh so maddening to have this pedophilic aspect in this masterpiece.

Unfortunately it says alot about Japan in general, most of mangas were problematic as that , but packed with an actual good art and plot. I remember reading it when i was 15ish and I thought it was awesome, a cool older love interest, so awesome so possessive. Now 15 + years later, in retrospect, thats so wild. And yea many of mangas during that time had huge age gaps with not just minors but barely hitting puberty minors

God, I wish this had an official English release. I don't often buy manga, but best believe I would buy all 40+ volumes of this masterpiece.
